Trent's music didn't cross the culture devide for me like Prince's music has. I didn't hear Trent in my neck of the hood, my parent's weren't bumpin' Trent. My cousin and family didn't either So Fuck everything Trent said! Trent's music ait shit to me! I give away worthless shit sometimes too! Since both Prince and Trent are in my top 5 artists of all time, I'm not jumping into this discussion. However I quoted this post to point out some irony. The irony is that in the list of artists you mention that you listen to, one of the artists mentioned is Marilyn Manson. You then go on to say that Trent's music 'aint shit to you'.....so let me ask you this: Who do you think is responsible for Marilyn Manson's career? Somebody that gave him his break into the music industry, signed him to his record label, produced his records and generally turned him from a nobody to a somebody? Do you know who I'm talking about? No? Here's a hint. His name starts with TRENT and ends with REZNOR. Aside from that I don't give a fuck about this debate one way or the other. I love Prince and his music. I love Trent and his music. That's about it. [Edited 5/9/09 13:21pm] |

EXCELLENT POINTS -How can the same people at the org who scream for Prince to be "relevant" and "cutting edge" embrace Trent Reznor aka a guy who hasn't made an album that has been "relevant" since 1994? -If Prince had the same career trajectory as Trent Reznor he'd have peaked at Controversy or Dirty Mind. Bottom line: Trent Reznor is cool and I like me some NIN. However, Mr. NIN calling out Prince is a bit is like Dennis Rodman or Latrell Spreewell speaking ill of Michael Jordan. What's the point?

So that sounds racist to me. Well a lot of the criticism for Prince always stikes me as some sort of underlying racism to it as well and "I dont like that kind of talk" either. I just learned who this Trent dude is... Is this person the lead singer of the group or something? I heard of NIN’s but there music was never played on the radio stations I listen 2. Never EVER heard of this person before. What I have heard I am not impressed. Different strokes 4 different folks and the videos posted of their music freakin sucks big time.

What are you, 12? Trent IS Nine Inch Nails. Always has been, always will be. He pioneered new directions in alternative and industrial and techno and hard rock genres. You don't have to be impressed. A gazillion other people already are.

The albums as a whole over the last 7 years do nothing for me. I'm sorry but I don't get being on some journey with a person I don't know or doesn't care anything about me. Anywho, the point is no one deserves to attack anyone for their opinion. Do some homework. Check out NIN.com. See the model that Trent uses to sell his music and connect with his fans directly. Trent may not be the god some fans make Prince out to be, but Prince could learn a thing or three from Trent's site.

10 things I learned from this thread...
1. Who Trent Reznor was. 2. Trent Reznor IS NIN 3. #2 explains why I still don't give a damn about Trent Reznor cause I never liked NIN to begin with. 4. I'm supposed to know and like Trent Reznor else I live in a cave. 5. The ignorance of those who can't comprehend living in a world where Trent Reznor does not exist is living in a cave all in of itself. 6. Several people can't read more than 250 words (so I'm gonna lose them at any moment.) 7. Those same people who can't read, would rather just make shit up just to have something to bitch about. 8. Giving an honest account on the view of rock music in general where I grew up... means I'm racist (see #7)... even though I said from the start, I didn't share that view. (every one but those i mentioned at #6 understood the point) 9. Because Trent Reznor worked with David Bowie at some point... he must be good. 10. I like Trent Reznor less than when I didn't know shit about him. [Edited 5/9/09 20:40pm]
