1) This is complete speculation and not supported by anything.

2) If this was true, how do you explain the rather consistent no. of records sold of the last few Prince albums (PE being a minor exception)? Disappointed people would normally stop buying his stuff at some stage, I think. That's speculation too, but at least there is some data supporting it.

Oh excuse me ohhh mighty one who knowest of every artist to ever make music who ever existed. Unless you were born with your ass plugged into some universal jack... everyone had to learn about every one else they know at some point in there lives. I learned who Trent Reznor was by coming here... and I wasn't impressed. Fucking sue me for not giving a damned about NIN.

I have never cared to listen to NIN. I'm sorry... his/thier music doesn't appeal to me nor most people from my culture. Its just a fact. Where I came from... R&B, soul, jazz, funk, gospel, house and hip hop dominated our radio... our clubs.,..everything. My community was more into R Kelly and Public Announcement, Mary J Blidge, Anita Baker, Luther Vandross, Yolanda Adams, Be Be and CeCe Winans, Johnny Gill, NWA, AMG, Too Short, Fast Eddie, Farley Jackmaster Funk, etc etc .. and could not care less about 'rock' music. NIN was just another group of 'white' boys making noise. And those who listened to that type of music were ridiculed. I know that perpetuates a stereotype.. but it is none the less a view which most of my community share with music genres not dominated by 'black' musicians.

So sure... you had a few people who stepped out of the norm and didn't listen to the music we were supposed to listen too based on where we grew up... I was one of them. Fans of Prince tend to be more diversified in their musical taste regardless of race or culture... but in no way does that mean that our taste doesn't differ. To me Trent Reznor is no more relevant than MC Hammer. I remember NIN being popular at some point... but the music was not to my liking... and I never heard the name 'Trent Reznor' until I came here.

So unless you wish to lie and say you're familiar with the music of this small sample of very popular artist from 'my' community... I just named... you need to open your eyes before you get hit by rocks in your own cave.

There is nothing more frustrating than so called music elitist spouting their bullshit rhetoric.

2) I bought TRC, was disappointed. I still bought N.E.W.S, was disappointed. Thanks to the concert bundle deal I got several copies of Musicology which I did enjoy. I bought 3121, was disappointed. I bought Planet Earth, was disappointed. And even though I said I wasn't, I still bought LotusFlow3r and was...you got it, sorely disappointed.

Now some will speculate that my disappointment stems from wanting Prince to sound like he did in the '80's and 90's. That's not accurate. My disappointment stems from the fact Prince's new music doesn't move my spirit, emotionally or physically. With the exception of Dance4Me, which I thoroughly enjoy, have on my iPod and listen to daily when I take my morning walks. But frankly, nothing else new makes me want to listen to it. When something new comes out, I overwhelmingly want to hear it but after doing so that desire to listen to it just hasn't been there. Will it finally sink in that it's just not going ever be there...perhaps? But what can I say, the man's music had me strung out for so long, it's like a bad habit...hard as hell to break!

Right but he said he didn't know who NIN was because they were just white boys making noise. I don't like that kind of talk. He was saying that he wouldn't know about the white music because he grew up with "his" kind of music. Well, I know and am very familiar with "his" kind of music even though I'm white. So that sounds racist to me.
