When he does deign to comment it always seems so political. Like he's done a quick Google search for "popular recording artists" and then attached whatever message he wanted to convey, prior to amassing the list, to their names. For all his "musicology" talk, Prince doesn't really talk about music. Michael B has provided more insight into Prince's musical intellect in his chats on the Org than any forty Prince interviews combined. Prince: Talk to us about the the key of b flat; about doubling up on bass guitar tracks; about gating the Linn snare; about the factory preset patches on your 1996-1998 keyboards; about the harmonizer used on Diamonds & Pearls; about the the EMI guitar pickup; about the granite wall at Paisley Park used to create natural reverb! last thing prince talked about on Tavis Smiley was how much better the Randy Travis website was than Lotusflow8r ...you can join Randy's Ranch right here and you are welcome for the link in advance http://www.randytravis.com/ next thread title - Randy Travis Slams Trent Reznor and Marilyn Manson [Edited 5/8/09 0:57am] [Edited 5/8/09 1:00am]

Disappointed people would normally stop buying his stuff at some stage, I think. That's speculation too, but at least there is some data supporting it. 1) Hence the phrase "couldn't that also mean" - That infers my speculation. 2) I bought TRC, was disappointed. I still bought N.E.W.S, was disappointed. Thanks to the concert bundle deal I got several copies of Musicology which I did enjoy. I bought 3121, was disappointed. I bought Planet Earth, was disappointed. And even though I said I wasn't, I still bought LotusFlow3r and was...you got it, sorely disappointed. Now some will speculate that my disappointment stems from wanting Prince to sound like he did in the '80's and 90's. That's not accurate. My disappointment stems from the fact Prince's new music doesn't move my spirit, emotionally or physically. With the exception of Dance4Me, which I thoroughly enjoy, have on my iPod and listen to daily when I take my morning walks. But frankly, nothing else new makes me want to listen to it. When something new comes out, I overwhelmingly want to hear it but after doing so that desire to listen to it just hasn't been there. Will it finally sink in that it's just not going ever be there...perhaps? But what can I say, the man's music had me strung out for so long, it's like a bad habit...hard as hell to break! there I just figured you out by this post. you're like a prince junkie crack addict. still chasin the dragon thinkin you might get as high as you used to off that prince dope but left disappointed cuz the shit ain't potent or just plain stepped on. I have to say that I know what you mean about Dance 4 Me. I listen to it a few times a day cuz it's one of THOSE Prince songs that do it for me, but the difference between us is I haven't disqualified the rest of the music. There are many other songs on both CD's which are constantly growing on me and I'm really lovin em. I can only agree with you about not diggin NEWS and Planet Earth I feel the same way but TRC, Musicology, and 3121 are all good in my book. Planet Earth and NEWS may have been an attempt at being different and maybe it was expected of us to adapt to the ideology behind them but they were so out of the ordinary that they weren't perceived as Prince intended them to be. I remember him on Larry King w/ that other Larry, and he said he released Crystal Ball because he wanted to "clean up" the bootleg market a bit. Son....grab a broom, and get to cleanin' some more!
Straight Up... 'get to cleanin'' I liked Reznor's recent collabo with Saul Williams...I'd be more interested in Saul's opinion actually Everything that dude says is constructive! At the same time, though, there are lots of artists who 'used to be' fans of Prince so we shouldn't just dismiss him out of hand. I mean, does Alicia Keys like lotus? How 'bout Gwen Stefani? ?uestlove et al..? ********************************************

Unless you were born with your ass plugged into some universal jack... everyone had to learn about every one else they know at some point in there lives. I learned who Trent Reznor was by coming here... and I wasn't impressed. Fucking sue me for not giving a damned about NIN. I have never cared to listen to NIN. I'm sorry... his/thier music doesn't appeal to me nor most people from my culture. Its just a fact. Where I came from... R&B, soul, jazz, funk, gospel, house and hip hop dominated our radio... our clubs.,..everything. My community was more into R Kelly and Public Announcement, Mary J Blidge, Anita Baker, Luther Vandross, Yolanda Adams, Be Be and CeCe Winans, Johnny Gill, NWA, AMG, Too Short, Fast Eddie, Farley Jackmaster Funk, etc etc .. and could not care less about 'rock' music. NIN was just another group of 'white' boys making noise. And those who listened to that type of music were ridiculed. I know that perpetuates a stereotype.. but it is none the less a view which most of my community share with music genres not dominated by 'black' musicians. So sure... you had a few people who stepped out of the norm and didn't listen to the music we were supposed to listen too based on where we grew up... I was one of them. Fans of Prince tend to be more diversified in their musical taste regardless of race or culture... but in no way does that mean that our taste doesn't differ. To me Trent Reznor is no more relevant than MC Hammer. I remember NIN being popular at some point... but the music was not to my liking... and I never heard the name 'Trent Reznor' until I came here. So unless you wish to lie and say you're familiar with the music of this small sample of very popular artist from 'my' community... I just named... you need to open your eyes before you get hit by rocks in your own cave. There is nothing more frustrating than so called music elitist spouting their bullshit rhetoric. Way to go bringing your racist views into the mix. Not until just now with your hot air did the subject of Trent Reznor being a "white boy" come into the thread. I'm white and I'm perfectly familiar with ALL kinds of music, especially the small sample you've provided. WOW! What an ignorant fucking thing to say! Know what I say to that? Go back to Housequake, oh yeah, I forgot. Your idol had that place shut down. why that cat bein all racist? He needs to go back to his cave!

right on trent.
and that's coming from a fan. trent has claimed to be a fan of P's work since his first cd. so i feel the man has a right to speak his mind from an artistic point of view as well as a fan who knows P's work. trent has been just as relevant to his scene as P has been to his. TONS of bands came out after trent trying and mostly failing to emulate his sound.
