You guys do realize that Trent Reznor is probably not as obsessed with Prince as we are, right?
Why is it okay for Prince to dis on "music today" but not okay for Trent Reznor? Because Prince is talented? it's time for a new direction / it's time for jazz to die

Obviously, people here are going to go nuts when someone like Trent Reznor disses on Prince. I don't think what Reznor said is that controversial. Reznor is someone who drew a lot of inspiration (and in some cases, samples) from Prince's earlier work. He's as qualified as anyone else to have an opinion, even if he disagrees with us.
Reznor used to tell a story about the time he met Prince. They were both at the WB offices at the same time for some reason. Reznor found himself passing Prince in the hallway. Reznor said hi. Prince ignored him and kept walking. There's no real moral to that story except I thought it would be appropriate to tell it here. I now return you to the regularly scheduled defending of Prince and slamming of Reznor. it's time for a new direction / it's time for jazz to die

I was always taught that when it comes to leisure items, never pay an amount that you can't afford to give away. I purchased the album at Target, and I have been jammin' Lotus and MPLS since I got them. I didn't join Lotusflow3r.com because I didn't and don't have $77.00 of disposable income. Prince has had a couple of cites before. You should have known what to expect. That being said, when I do get $77.00 of disposable income I will join. But, you can't purchase a pet rock and then get upset if it doesn't play fetch, roll over, or guard the house. It is a pet rock, ya know.
As for Trent Reznor slammin' Prince, "Plaaaeeese!!!" That no talent hack of b.s. sensationalism wouldn't know a good song if it kicked him in his pie hole. I'm so tired of all of these lame ass wanna be rockers who ain't even qualified to perm Jimi's hair and put on Little Richard's make-up and Pro Tool rappers who can't find middle C tryin' to cook in the kitchen and ain't got no grease. I say that constructively, ya know??? Lol. That is the absolute truth.

"I’m not Prince or Rivers Cuomo who brags about having hundreds of great songs,” Reznor said. “And to that I would say, Prince, if you have a hundred great songs or a thousand, how about picking a few and putting them on your record that you’ve put out because your last several have sucked. Same for you, Rivers. I say that constructively, you know.” awww Trent is envious because Prince doesnt have to consistently giveaway free music , be active on Twitter or conduct corny April fools joke for his fans to like him. The last albums havent sucked, no matter what quality of music is in anyones opinion, it will always sell point blank. let the games begin

i get why he's razzing on prince, but rivers cuomo? i never really thought of him as prolific. he's released a couple of odds'n'sods solo albums, but those were just demos and scraps of songs...i didn't think they were supposed to be considered masterpieces.

I've heard more talk about the vault from the media and insiders than I ever have from Prince. As far as Trent saying that Prince's last several records have sucked, That's all relative and his opinion. NIN ain't all that. I only liked one song of his and that was years ago. That's my opinion. Exactly! I can only recall Prince talking about the NUMBER of songs he has recorded in the vault, only as a statement of the fact that he's recording all the time... that he lives, eats, breathes, sleeps music, etc. The QUALITY of those songs... that has been fueled by fan-buzz, bootlegs, etc. I bet you if Prince did go dig out really old "classic" vault material that's been bootlegged, people here would STILL complain about getting a bunch of old shit. "That...magic, the start of something revolutionary-the Minneapolis Sound, we should cherish it and not punish prince for not being able to replicate it."-Dreamshaman32

Farfunknugin said: I think Princes bragging about the vault was just a way of building up his mystic, no less no more. Sure he has some unreleased music, most artists do. But I think the majority of quality trax have already surfaced. The bulk of what's in there probably doesn't amount to more than jam sessions. Don't go just believing that cause I have seen a number of interviews where Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis have stated that Prince has hits on top of hits in his vault and some that they would attest to. So who would you believe??? I think that I'm going to go with the dudes who have quite a number of hits under their belts who seem to believe that this man is as good as some of us know that he is.

By just saying that something sucks doesn't sound very constructive to me. Also when Prince said he liked constructive critism, he also said he liked it from smart people And, yes, him saying Prince's last few albums have sucked is his opinion. His last few albums are probably not Trent's type of music, anyway. I love his last albums. To each his own, but dang...hater. lol
