but if you're antagonizing the haters, aren't you just perpetuating the hate on this site? it's like you're trying to put out fire with gasoline.

rolleyes at antagonzing the haters... LOL...

So you just want the haters to say whatever they want and no one should question them? Then that is why the Prince fans at the concerts call this site a Princehate.org I have heard many Prince fans say that about the org.

You can't have a discussion about his music here without threads being bombarded with hatred for the guy. My question is why would people who hate him so much frequent this site and waste their time on him? What exact psychological problems do they have that they are seeking a solution to?

Prince can conduct his busines the way he seems fit, I don't find his business decisions to be a slap in my face at all. I am here to enjoy his music and if I didn't I'd find something else to enjoy. I would most definitely not go to a fansite and bash the guy because I am having a pissy day.

show me an UNOFFICIAL fan site for ANY artist that is all peace signs and lollipops and i will show you some heavy handed moderation that will make the .org mod squad look like a bunch of anarchist hippies. lol

it's the INTERNET, darlin'. haters are ubiquitous on this thing.

it's not just the .org, it's everywhere. have you ever looked at the comments on ANY youtube video? there are people who just post hateful stuff left and right because they can!

we can only moderate people's bitchiness to a certain extent without becoming the thought police, which i refuse to do. to some extent, it becomes YOUR responsibility to separate the wheat from the chaff and figure out who on here has comments and criticisms you may not agree with, but you at least can take seriously, instead of the fools who think "PRUNCE SUXXX LOLOLOL" is actually a form of valid debate.

and you know what? it's like that saying goes: become the change you want to see in the world. what i said to you earlier in this thread is true. if you hate the haters, you're doing the exact same thing they're doing, only with different words. i'm not going to argue with you about this. just think about it, and keep those thoughts to yourself. lol

That's nice and all, but I have noticed that this website becomes more and more focused on itself rather than Prince's music. This thread, for instance, has 500+ replies, and ca. 400 of them somehow discuss the love-hate relationship some people here have with Prince. In contrast, the discussion on his latest albums are in the range of 800-900 replies each, and those stickies are up there for 6 weeks or so now!

The endlessly ongoing "fams vs. haters" bullshit is just annoying to me and one of the reasons why I spend less and less time here. That's just my personal opinion, and in contrast to Mr. Reznor, I'm at least able to voice it without calling out specific people.

well, for one thing, this site is not an official site, but an unofficial, independent site dedicated to the online fan COMMUNITY...so if people are spending a lot of time in these threads talking about themselves and their relationship with prince and his music, then that's kind exactly of what this site is for. confused

Anx, I understand all that. I never wanted the thought police to come out and re-design this website according to my personal wishes. But it is my sincere opinion that the overall level of discussion in this forum (PM&M) has significantly gone downhill. Damn.. Trent Reznor has gotten very arrogant. Check out this quote from here: http://www.twentyfourbit....vers-cuomo

"I’m not Prince or Rivers Cuomo who brags about having hundreds of great songs,” Reznor said. “And to that I would say, Prince, if you have a hundred great songs or a thousand, how about picking a few and putting them on your record that you’ve put out because your last several have sucked. Same for you, Rivers. I say that constructively, you know.”

awww Trent is envious because Prince doesnt have to consistently giveaway free music , be active on Twitter or conduct corny April fools joke for his fans to like him. The last albums havent sucked, no matter what quality of music is in anyones opinion, it will always sell point blank.

let the games begin
Not only did Mr. Reznor give out free music and whole fucking concerts, his stuff still sells. Us fans like him, period. Free music or not.

i think it fluxuates. i think when prince gives us a lot to talk about, then the diehard, encyclopdediac, superduperfans come out of the woodwork because there's new stuff to talk about and deconstruct to the very last bone. for example, during the musicology tour, this site was hoppin' because with each show a wave of fans would be hitting the chat room after they got home from the show, and people would be posting their experiences like crazy.

it's a little more difficult to expect that level of excitement these days, with the way prince operates, both in terms of how he releases music and in terms of how he goes about scheduling live performances in recent years.

so the people who really get off on having meaty, substantial discussions about prince's work, finding they have nothing to talk about, will either flock to other forums or leave the .org altogether, leaving the wackadoos who either obsess 24/7 about how much they hate prince or how much they want to have his babies. lucky for all of us, those types can go on and on and on FOREVER. dead

Acknowledged, but sorry, I get tired of people misunderstanding the lyrics of "Family Name" the 100th time.

I remember threads about spirituality in Prince's music and his spiritual evolution that had almost scientific quality. Now that is surely not to be expected in an internet forum on a regular basis, but they are simply completely absent now.

The two stickies for Lotusflow3r/MPLSound together make a total of ca. 1800 posts. Taking into account multiple posts and the fact that many people reviewed both albums, that's probably several hundreds of people who bothered to give an opinion about the latest albums.

On the other hand, these records sold how many units in the U.S.? 250,000 or even slightly more? On top of that, some people probably downloaded it from lotusflow3r.com only or even from somewhere else, so these records must have been listened to by ca. 300,000 to 400,000 people.

Face it, the org and its opinions are a small footnote in the overall reception of Prince's work.

Can you imagine Prince saying this about Stevie Wonder's latest output? Miles Davis in the latter part of his career?
I don't think that anyone here would argue that those guys later works were/are as good as what they produced during their artistic peak.

Reznor is classless dick.
There are fans here who say Prince sucks everyday. Reznor is a fan. Is he a worse fan because he's famous?

1) "Family Name" is NOT antisemitic (please read the lyrics carefully).

2) No, because the threads I referred to were about his 80s/90s work to a major extent.

No, but I think you never claimed that you want to be constructive with that remark.

Even this thread title is somewhat inflammatory.

So, Trent just happens to mention Prince's output in a negative way, which
accounts for what, about 10 seconds, during an hour long interview in which
he talks about all kinds of music related stuff. And this is him "slamming"
Prince? Come on, there's been fans on this very site who've said much much
worse. Besides, this was just an online interview with a fan, not some MTV
broadcast or article in Rolling Stone.

Regardless of whether you think Trent was right or wrong about Prince's
recent output (and it was hardly a considered opinion, just an off the cuff
remark), he's entitled to his opinion... same as everyone else.

Trent's a fan of Prince, so his comments were made from a similar perspective
to ours. Plus, he has a point about the unreleased material. While Prince doesn't
go on about it all the time, he certainly has on occasion boasted about how
many unreleased songs he has, and even how great some of them are.
I'm sure that Trent's comment was a direct reaction to Prince recent
assertion that the track "The Divine" was "too good to release". So what
Trent was really saying was "Why hoard all the 'best' stuff in the vault,
when your released output isn't that hot, in my opinion? If it's so good, just
release it!".

Personally, I love both artists, and wish Prince would take a leaf out of
Trent's book when it comes to the internet. The original NPG Music Club
was moving in the right direction. However, Prince's subsequent sites
never fulfilled that early potential and he seems to have lost sight of
what's really important. He needs to concentrate on 'substance', not
'surface', and in that respect, Trent's way ahead.

Who the fuck is Trent Reznor?

If not for a couple people here holding his sack all the time... I wouldn't know who the hell he was. Nor would I care. And I still don't. I could ask the same question to every one I know... and they would give the same reply, " Trent who...???"

According to 'you guys'... he's done some very fan friendly things with marketing himself to his fans. But what does that really have to do about his music? The only people who will utter his name in the same sentence with Prince are his own fans.. while everyone else is still asking "who?".

Believe it or not, there are people who ask, "Prince who?" too. arrow

LOL...

I live in a cave because I don't like nor care about NIN or Trent Reznor...?

NEWSFLASH!!!!

Everyone does not listen to the same music. We all have different taste. Trent Reznor may be a household name to you... but that says more about your 'individual' taste rather than mine or that of the general music listening population. Some people just don't like his genre of music in general and therefore... don't know him, don't care to know him and really don't think much of those who do know him.

But of course... your little cave comment, in truth, shows that you're the one with musical blinders on. Because in your limited perception... you can't phantom that there are people... in fact... the majority of people in this world... who don't know or care about a Trent Reznor.

So I guess we must be living in a mighty big ass cave. Hell, its the friggin' Batcave and I'm throwing a party, Old skool Chicago House style! You and Trent are not invited.

If you did not know who that was.. your ass is living in a cave.

Oh excuse me ohhh mighty one who knowest of every artist to ever make music who ever existed. Unless you were born with your ass plugged into some universal jack... everyone had to learn about every one else they know at some point in there lives. I learned who Trent Reznor was by coming here... and I wasn't impressed. Fucking sue me for not giving a damned about NIN.

I have never cared to listen to NIN. I'm sorry... his/thier music doesn't appeal to me nor most people from my culture. Its just a fact. Where I came from... R&B, soul, jazz, funk, gospel, house and hip hop dominated our radio... our clubs.,..everything. My community was more into R Kelly and Public Announcement, Mary J Blidge, Anita Baker, Luther Vandross, Yolanda Adams, Be Be and CeCe Winans, Johnny Gill, NWA, AMG, Too Short, Fast Eddie, Farley Jackmaster Funk, etc etc .. and could not care less about 'rock' music. NIN was just another group of 'white' boys making noise. And those who listened to that type of music were ridiculed. I know that perpetuates a stereotype.. but it is none the less a view which most of my community share with music genres not dominated by 'black' musicians.

So sure... you had a few people who stepped out of the norm and didn't listen to the music we were supposed to listen too based on where we grew up... I was one of them. Fans of Prince tend to be more diversified in their musical taste regardless of race or culture... but in no way does that mean that our taste doesn't differ. To me Trent Reznor is no more relevant than MC Hammer. I remember NIN being popular at some point... but the music was not to my liking... and I never heard the name 'Trent Reznor' until I came here.

So unless you wish to lie and say you're familiar with the music of this small sample of very popular artist from 'my' community... I just named... you need to open your eyes before you get hit by rocks in your own cave.

There is nothing more frustrating than so called music elitist spouting their bullshit rhetoric.
