All I know is that regardless of the mixed opinions of people concerning the quality or lack of regarding Prince's recent out put... all that matters in this situation is...

Who the fuck is Trent Reznor?

If not for a couple people here holding his sack all the time... I wouldn't know who the hell he was. Nor would I care. And I still don't. I could ask the same question to every one I know... and they would give the same reply, " Trent who...???"

According to 'you guys'... he's done some very fan friendly things with marketing himself to his fans. But what does that really have to do about his music? The only people who will utter his name in the same sentence with Prince are his own fans.. while everyone else is still asking "who?".

Speaking only for myself here, but I think I'd be a little more tolerant of his newer stuff if he wasn't prone to being such a douche at times. Honestly, it's tainted my opinion of his newer work. Sorry, but that's just how I feel.

Judging from the subject of this thread. Prince isn't the only artist out there prone to being a douche.

Prince did, and called it "Let's Pretend We're Married".

And you could most definitely dance to it. Supa, that music was interesting.

Rivers Cuomo never claimed anything. Sounds like Trent is a dickhead trying to stay relevant when he knows he really isn't.

Ok I have listened to the song and it was interesting and had a tinge of funk in it but Prince's music on his new disc is far better than that song in my opinion. But it was cool so I kind of dug it. I have rarely listen to him before so I really don't know enough of his music to really have a objective opinion especially after hearing him diss Prince. If he walked by me on the street I would not know him so don't really know that much of his work. But he still thinks that he is better than Prince then I am sorry cause I don't get genius from that one song.

OHMYGODHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

THAT is the funniest post I've ever read here in the time I've been a member!! lol lol lol lol
Ok my enjoyment of Prince recent music will not be swayed by your thinking that Trent's music is a masterpiece. I am not a fan of his and I dig Prince's music. If you think that one a Prince fansite that there aren't going to be honest to goodness actual fans of the man's work then you have come to the wrong place. So why aren't you over at Trent's site singing his praise? I don't hear my enjoyment diminish one single bit and you are still here so whose winning this point.

'Ringfinger' contains a sample from 'Alphabet St.'

I don't think all the samples on that album are credited. biggrin

the 'classic' vault material is like the holy grail, and if done properly (unlike the crystal ball mish mash) it could be freakin fab - but we all know he wouldnt do it properly.

I've said it before - princes vault material is his trump card, and the card that keeps alot of fans holding on - we all know he's never gonna play that card, cuz until he plays the card he can still milk cash out of people with each and every internet club he creates - as members will always hope for a glimpse of quality vault material

HMMM - THATS IF THE CLASSIC VAULT MATERIAL STILL EXISTS - IT MAY HAVE BEEN DESTROYED AS IT DIDNT COINCIDE WITH HIS CURRENT BELIEFS omfg

-Trent Reznor is talented, but is very much a cult artist with limited appeal. At one time, NIN was the cutting edge of synth sounds in music, but the same could be said about Prince. How utterly 90's does NIN still sound today?

-Reznor has not the cultural impact, longevity, range, nor commercial & critical success that Prince has.

-Nor has Trent got the onstage chops/abilities to match Prince.

--We can argue all day and night about "quality" of his music, vs Prince, but it's subjective. Apples and Oranges indeed. Instead, compare career success/impact.

-How can the same people at the org who scream for Prince to be "relevant" and "cutting edge" embrace Trent Reznor aka a guy who hasn't made an album that has been "relevant" since 1994?

-If Prince had the same career trajectory as Trent Reznor he'd have peaked at Controversy or Dirty Mind.

Bottom line: Trent Reznor is cool and I like me some NIN. However, Mr. NIN calling out Prince is a bit is like Dennis Rodman or Latrell Spreewell speaking ill of Michael Jordan. What's the point?

If you are referring to his business model, then yes.. and i don't think any fan would mind that.

The Slip, which debuted for free download in May 2008 on his website. By making his music available to fans for free, Trent Reznor embraced the true openness of the Internet, similar to the release of the album Year Zero, which launched with an award-winning alternate reality game. Trent Reznor's ability to connect with fans far and wide through the Web makes him a qualified ambassador of online culture, and arguably one of the most-recognized artists harnessing the power of the Internet to spread music.

skywalker you answered your own question in the same paragraph. Your opinion of Prince and NIN is just as valuable as Reznor's opinion of Prince. Neither of you are Prince or Michael Jordan, but for some reason you don't feel like you're overstepping your boundaries by talking about how great Prince is. For some reason, it's only not knowing your place if it's not praise.

Look, let Prince do his thing, and let Trent do his.

That's the worst part about this thread that it brings about this lame ass psuedo competiton between the fans of these 2 over who's more "relevant", or who's the bigger genius, or who has the bigger and better internet presence!!!

This shit is lame!!!

That's my main problem with this stupid ass thread!!!

Prince couldn't give less than a fuck about what Trent thinks about his recent output. Just like Trent wouldn't give a fuck if somebody else said that same thing about him. And trust me, I've heard those same things being said.

So, why does this stupid fucking argument always pop up???

This is just a weak ass fight between fans of 2 multimillionaires who couldn't give less than a God Damn about them fighting over which one of the 2 multimillionaires' dick is the biggest!!!
