It just seems he tries so hard to be difficult and stringent. For instance, he went after a fan club of his and then he insisted that all of his videos and concert clips be removed from YouTube. He seems like a douche.

I'm just now seeing this. Ok put yourself in Prince or any Artist shoes for a sec. If you worked hard all your career on your songs and someone like YT or a fan club were making more money off your work than you...how would feel? As far as fan clubs he sent letters to fan clubs and ask them to cease and desist and they wouldn't comply. So that is the reason he went after them. Now I ask you again would you, or would you not make sure that peeps are not getting your work for free?[color=darkred][/color][/color]

I don't know all of Prince's reasons 4 things...No one would want to be taken advantage of which is how Prince probably feels.

There was a time...not too long ago, where "Music," was all there was...Listening was just that, unless U went to a concert....Video's are an addition to an artist's career. I don't know what I am trying to say here...although, why should anybody care what Prince does with his work, except him and his co-workers.

I've always told those people that I didn't think they could win against Prince, and eventually I was right. Now they had to shut down and plus he's talking about them in a song. How embarrassing

Fan clubs don't make money for the most part. Most sites are run by the sheer love of Prince and his music, not by huge amounts of cash coming in. WB can still put out another hits package today, and they'll make money of Prince's name, and he'll get the same miserable cut he has always gotten.

People on YouTube aren't uploading videos to somehow link them to some money making site. That's ridiculous. It's because..HELLO?!?! WE WANT TO SEE THEM!
If Prince is going to turn his back on his own career, ignore the cursing, the dirty shit, etc, and refuse to put out a comprehensive video DVD collection, then I, along with others, will always try to take our own steps so people can see them. I've yet to make money off anything I've done like that. I did it for the pleasure of the fans. I ran Uptown Radio for a while, and played Nagoya and Sendai rehearsals and shows, as well as some Hit N Run stuff from 1986 (and other things). I never made a red cent from it. But people LOVED it. I got emails from Italy, France, the US....all over. People just wanted to hear it. That's all.

No,I don't think he's stupid per se. I just think that he's SOOOOO longing for a relationship with something or someone bigger that himself that he can be easily convinced to believe a certain way. But I will say this: at least he has a willingness to follow and a love for whatever higher power he believes in. Most of us have to be dragged to God kicking and screaming. For his willingness to love whatever god he chooses, he gets much respect, regardless of how I feel about it personally.

He made a business decision. Personally I think an artist could at least let a few videos be on Youtube. Because it let's a wider audience appreciate the music.

I don't think it has anything to do with God, JW and the like. I think it's about money, pure and simple. If his image is on it, I think he wants to be paid for having it there. If this is true, then I get what he saying but I also think that he's missing the bigger picture too. To me, when it comes to YouTube, having his image there helps to bring him new fans or bring back lost fans, it brings sales to his CD's and ultimately brings him the money that he wants to have. If he promotes his website in the process, then it would bring him that much more money, but sadly, this doesn't appear to be the way Prince thinks and it's a shame cause stupid or not, we all lose out, especially Prince, since money seems to be the issue, though he's not crying broke as it is. Prince's mind has been colonized by views quite different from mine, but they seem healthy, coherent and quite practical.

And so are my own views.

After 22 of years listening to Princes music, reading his interviews and seeing his videos I would say:

He is an 'idiot savant' when it comes to music. Genious in his potentional, but he needs some wake-up call by other creative, strong people at this moment.

He is moderately intelligent in general. He probably would have trouble finishing an academic study, let alone even start it.

When it comes to self-reflection he is very poor, that is why he probably keeps people on a distance who dare to say to him: you are talking shit at this moment.

When it comes to understanding philosophy, politics and religion he is by far overrating himself.
The fact he has nobody to say 'No' to him, and his unwillingness to really open up, keep his views in this field rather naive and halfbaken (on a good day) and painfully unnuanced and dumb (at a bad day).

How's that feel? A little demeaning, a little exclusive, a little confused.

I don't think PRINCE is STUPID at all, but I think Fan-Clubs don't harm him in any way and I think posting vids on YOU TUBE is FUN for FANS. I don't think EVERYTHING should be about MONEY. Fans mean well and CERTAINLY MOST don't want to HURT HIM. I also think he REALLY HURT HIMSELF by WAGING a WAR AGAINST WARNER BROTHERS. He even said he doesn't get MAJOR AIRPLAY on the RADIO,but PRINCE is a REBEL. I don't think he should feel like a SLAVE because he doesn't own his MASTERS. I mean this must have been in his CONTRACT when he agreed to it. I am sure WARNER BROTHERS PAID him FAIRLY. And they also BANKROLLED his PROTEGEES. They loved him and INDULGED him. He is an ARTIST and a DIVA which is why we LOVE HIM SO MUCH. I do believe ALL ARTISTS SHOULD OWN THEIR MASTERS, but this must be DE'REGUIR spelling off I'm sure in the music INDUSTRY. Maybe one Day he will get to OWN THEM SOMEHOW. I want him to. I Understand his POSITION 100%.
