3121 appreciation report here please.... Just flipped this long-player on... blimey it's good, isn't it? Alright, except for Incense and Candles and Get on the Boat... that aside, even Beautiful, Loved and Blessed.
Love is a wondrous Janet-esque 90s love-a-thon. The title tracks kicks everything from Lotus Flow3r in the arse. Black Sweat... well.... ![]() The Word, Lolita... all brilliant tunes... My gosh, but I'm enjoying this.... ![]()

Nope - dont agree....Planet Earth trumped it easily, 3121 let down by bad production IMO.
Still have to hear Lotusflower so cant compare yet.

Really? OK. I'm a little confused, but you pays your money.
I must admit, as I sit here now and listen to The Word I cannot but help nod my head and sway my shoulders as I type... report writing has never been so easy!

The Word was good but I found the lyrics a bit strange, esp the JW esque theme about forked tongue.
The Dance and Lolita, TAC were my favs on this album, Word prob third. Beautiful Loved and Blessed was underrated, needed more radio play. Yeah i wasn't too keen on the general R and B style and poor production. [Edited 5/11/09 2:59am]

Cant tell you how much that was blazed from the car. Black Sweat is so monster, so nasty and one of the best mplsound trax ever. Too many hooks on one beat. The amount of non~fans that absolutely loved it was the most yet. It would of been his biggest hit in so long had it been milked a bit...glad it wasn't though. As for the album, a good pop album. Love it when he does RnB, i want more of it! This Post is produced, arranged, composed and performed by WetDream

i was surprised at how "accessible" prince's sound was on 3121. i enjoyed it. Love, Black Sweat, The Dance, The Word, Beautiful Loved & Blessed are my faves.
i'm wondering for those who said the album was "poorly produced" actually meant. its one thing to not prefer a production STYLE, (this one was more r & b leaning) but SONICALLY, it is a well-produced album. so perhaps its linguistics and semantics

I love this album. I was about to get out of my car when Black Sweat came on my iPod and it sounded so good, I had to stay and listen to it. I found the CD at the Virgin Megastore and brought it for one of my best friends recently so I hope he enjoys it. 3121 kicks major ass! I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Datdude - listen to Fury and you can see what I mean, the levels are wrong (voice far too quiet) and inn terms of style it isn't a patch on the Live version, just lacks sonic 'energy' IMO. [Edited 5/11/09 9:39am]

I know what you mean about the studio Fury... it does lack some of the punch of the live version. That said, I quite like the production on this player... reminds of when the 'sound' of Dirty Mind caused a little consternation.

the title track
is the best on the album Although safe, it's a really good album I prefer "the work" to "black sweat" small circles, big wheels!
I've got a pretty firm grip on the obvious!

I believe that '3121' is one of Prince's finest songs... it has a murky macabre aligned to sins of the flesh rather than the party because of the apocalypse of 1999 and Let's Go Crazy... When you consider the stage of his career and the release of this album, there are five or six truly genius tracks on here.

I think that 3121 is hands down Prince's best album in the last 10years. for my personal taste, it is a borderline masterpiece, and why are you guys neglecting 'Love', that song kicks ass, I must've listened to it like 100 times when I first got the CD, but everything else is dope too. 'Lolita' is the song that I probably skip the most. Lady Cab Driver is one of the greatest songs ever!

Not a stunner but the most consistent Prince album in a long while. Blows Musicology out of the water and has no real clunkers (Incense and Candles is darn close). The title track is also suspect and the high pitch whine in Black Sweat ruins the most catchy song he put out in ages.
I think PE, 3121 and Musicology have a really good album buried in there somewhere.

You are right, Love is a HOT track. I love Lolita too. His version on AI was great but too short! I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
