Michael Jackson songs that Prince could have done better

Tough one. So much of Michael's music is "candy pop". It's hard to imagine Prince singing songs like Billie Jean or Beat It. In fact, the notion alone makes me throw up in my mouth a little.

But with that being said, here are a few that I think Prince would do well... if not better.

Yeah yeah I know, BLASPHEMY... but here are my choices.

1. Man in the Mirror. I love Michael's version. Not sure if Prince would have done a better job, but I think Prince could have worked with it.

2. Dirty Diana. Just because of the guitar. It's also a similar topic... kinda sorta... to much of Prince's music.

3. Remember the Time. I love this song. I think Prince would have done VERY WELL with this song. I know Prince had no interest in doing a song WITH Mike, but this might have been a nice choice.

4. PYT. I would love to see Prince jam to this. (I'd throw up later)

5. Leave Me Alone. It just fits Prince.

6. The Way You Make Me Feel. This might actually be fun! LOL

7. We Are the World. (Oh, wait. Nevermind. Not a chance.)

Prince would NEVER in a MILLION BILLION GAZILLION YEARS cover Michael, but... if these songs had either been given to Prince, or if Prince just said "Hey... what the fuck, why not" lol... I think he'd do an interesting job.

But like I said... I'd might throw up! lol

My mom always said that song reminded her of "Darling Nikki"
If you wanna refrence to guitar, Give Into Me, that guitar kills me!
YES! I SAID IT!
[You know how long I been on ya? Since Prince was on Apollonia.]
R.I.P Michael! Sad, the only time he was in peace, was when he wasn't alive.

Prince performing Come Together live kind of gives me an idea if Prince can do the SAME song as Michael better. Couldnt answer that one right now but ummmmm id say Billie Jean. The bass & with Princes vocals i think the song would be cool. Im sure Prince would rearrange the song as most artists do when they cover songs so that alone, him making the song his own, im sure it would work. You can take any Michael song for that matter then.
I believe in horns!

I have NEVER thought about Prince doing any MJ songs instead of Michael. MJ is a superlative male singer to me, and I've never wanted to know what Prince would sound like singing any of his records. Hmmm....I'll have to really ponder about this one. LOL

Yes, it is! lol

After thinking about it, I say:

1) Just Good Friends (Singing it solo, not as a duet with Stevie).
2) Give In To Me (Not "better" than Michael, but just as good.)
3) D.S. (Again, not "better," but just as good.)
4) Superfly Sister
5) Break of Dawn (Maybe....)
6) Butterflies (Once again, LOL, not "better," but just as good.)
7) Privacy

Working Day And Night

Give In To Me (Prince's version would be much harder and darker)

Pretty much any of MJ's love songs (Prince would make you feel as if he's actually been in love and had sex before and not just singing the words lol...)

hmmm

I don't think Prince could have done any song from Off The Wall or Thriller better, or even as good as Michael...But he might have been able to do this one in falsetto (like "Head"). shrug

Good idea though. I'd love to hear him cover this live one day.

Lots of falsetto...some piercing screams at just THE right moments...some blistering guitar work...yeah, Prince would rock this sucker lol nod

Prince has already done a few MJ covers live including "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough" and "Billie Jean".

I was just about to say that smile
he did billie jean acoustic and it was very nice, but you need the special MJ dance moves to make the song complete.

you can't compare the two I think. they're both outstanding singers. but I wouldn't call MJ songs "candy pop". listen to scream, that's a real killer song. in fact MJ would never release an album that sucks the way planet earth and musicology sucked. MJ doesn't release as much albums as prince, but sometimes I wish Prince had skipped an album or two.

Yeah Invincible had it's cringeworthy moments, but like a lot of releases in the 80 minute CD world, it would have been a much stronger album with only 9 songs on it. There are some quality tracks on there.

And I didn't think Musicology sucked, nor Planet Earth. All three suffer from the same problem though.

Off course I listened to "invincible". it was a good album. a couple of songs should've been thrown in the bin, but overall it is a very good album.

it's strange, but that album was a commercial flop, but other artists released songs in the same style as the "invincible" album, and they had lots of success with it. so it appeared to me that people didn't care about MJ that much anymore. a new artist with the same songs was more appealing than the old scary and weird MJ. it's a strange world.

that's a matter of opinion I guess. to me, musicology and planet earth, and also the Rave album has 2 or 3 good songs on it and the rest was garbage. I liked 3121 much better. the song 3121 to me is one of the best songs he released in the last 10 years. and lotusflow3r and mplsound again are very good albums. he has his ups and downs.

It averaged a lowly 51 (out of 100) on the metacritics site lol...

That's pretty bad...

No,it's just that "Invicible" was copying already established successful styles in an attempt for MJ to remain musically relevant, and he sucked at it lol...the reason other artists did better commercially in those same styles is because they did it better and the styles fit them better.

another strange thread, biggrin

Prince and Jacko... why mix the art from these 2 genius'es????? confused

I wouldn't want Jacko to sing Kiss or Sign O The Times, and I wouldn't want Prince to sing Heal The World or Man In The Mirror.

I really don't think Prince could have done most of MJ's songs better than MJ himself and I really think some P fans are kidding themselves if they truly believe that. Love Prince to death, but i've never been impressed with his voice outside of his falsetto, whereas I think Michael is a better and more diverse vocalist. He doesn't just sound impressive doing falsetto as is the case with Prince. The few that I could see Prince maybe pulling off as well or better though are:

1)In The Closet
2)Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough
3)Dirty Diana
4)Human Nature (maybe)

Basically, any of MJ songs that require falsetto I could see Prince doing well with but outside of that, no way. Just the same, I don't think Michael could ever pull of most of Prince's songs as well or better than he did. They should just stick to singing their own songs lol b/c the originals can't be topped imo.

I'll say Don't stop til' you get enough. I think Mike is a better singer when it comes to normal singing or singing from the diaphragm, but Prince is a way better falsetto singer.

This would turn my stomach. I don't know why, but I'd have mental issues after seeing a night of Prince sing Michael Jackson tunes.

But think about this...

Both have experienced very little commercial success (to be polite) as of late. It would be interesting though, if the two started releasing each others' songs and started some sort of "Prince/Michael Can You Top This" thing.

I don't think Prince needs the money. Michael, maybe. But it would be AMAZING to see if each artist could top the other in singing each others' signature songs.

But once again... and I've already said this a bunch of times... If I heard Prince singing Leave Me Alone, or Bad, or Human Nature, I'd be sick. It would be kind of like seeing a car accident. You don't really want to see the carnage, but you kinda sorta do.

With all of that being said however, there are definitely some songs that these artists could do that belong to the other... and maybe even better... but... I wouldn't REALLY want to see Prince pay hommage like that.

Am I curious... of course. I'd pay to hear Prince sing Achy Breaky Heart by Billy Ray Cyrus. But it would still be painful. Fun, yes. Painful? Indeed.
