Beautiful track.

Given it's subject matter and the 'in love' vibe of Emancipation, you can see why it was cut.

I don't think it belonged on "Emancipation" either. Those cd's are his ode to Mayte.

It's a beautiful song. Of course if you wanted to put the music critic hat on, then the song is nothing else than absolute R&B / 90s pop cheese-schmaltz with some of his most substandard production to date - it is not "Adore" - but if you're willing to accept it in its simplicity, it's still a beautiful song in the end.

I swear I'll spend it on my knees

Excuse me, but is this really.....goodbye.

When he sings that line it almost sounds like he's going to cry. It has to be extremely personal, no way you write lyrics like that without some background of personal events.

I remember playing this over and over when CB came out. It still is one of my favorite songs from Prince and my favorite of the CB set, just above Moviestar.
Beautiful ballad that screams pain of heartbreak and false love when love is way past over.
Walking alone in the dark, I see nothing u see
I can be in a park, or flying in the…in the deep sea
I wish u’d hold my hand; then everything could b
There’s nothing strange, we’re not deranged
We only want everyday 2 b a Cosmic Day

Love this song and use to play it often when Crystal Ball came out (in the hockey puck but that's another story - one of many on this journey - of songs and constantly disapearing websites both official and unofficial- that all the "oldies" will recall).

One of the great things about new Prince releases is that it stirs my interest to revisit previous releases. And dig out the book DMSR by Per Nilsen to review "the old times" and see where many songs came from and who was involved with their inspiration and musical inputs.

Always thought "Goodbye"was comparable to "Adore" (SOTT) in feeling - but Adore" is the best song of all time IMO

Yes, an underrated gem and about the only song that can move me to tears. Beautiful and heartfelt.

The only thing im not too keen on is the Bee Gee's style parts.

good track.

the chorus reminds me a lot of the chorus on Neneh Cherry's & Youssou N'Dour's - 7 Seconds.

check it out.

I used to really love this song and it was one of my favorites from Crystal Ball and the whole Emancipation-era recording sessions.

But I'm kinda "meh" about it now. It's bland and boring to me. The falsetto is irritating on it. Nice song, but he's done it better.
