INSPIRATION - it's what makes the world go round.
a "true gift" is meant to be given, how one interprets it for himself, and what flows out of him from his own gift, is a "gift" unto itself. True gifts from God keep on giving. We are not meant to be a island unto ourselfs. Prince,Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder, me and you for that matter, wouldn't be who we are without the divine gifts of others, which produce - INSPIRATION. And thats all i have to say about that! Peace and love always.

'From the Lotus Flower' reminds me of the last 3 minutes of Rainbow Children and the last few moments of The Undertaker album. Don't u want to come , 3121. It's gonna be so much fun, 3121. That's where the party be, 3121. Y'all can come if u want to, but u can never leave!

I actually meant that in earnest. Hearing Ssh also reminded me a bit of the final part of the title track to The Rainbow Children. The whole jazz fusion vibe by Miles - I totally get that this was where his ears were.

So, you're implying its a steal? A rip? How so? The melody is not the same. The bass is not the same. The rhythm is not the same. The instrumentation is not the same. These 2 tracks and HUNDREDS of others sound similar....but are not the same, steals or rips. It is great, soulful, jazz music and there is a lot of that about....doesn't mean all these artists are copying or stealing from each other....just exploring a similar genre of music. ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

Nice comparison. Prince's unique interpretation of tradditional jazz rythms, instruments and tempos works nicely on From the Lotus; of course Miles will lead with trumpet while Prince, guitar. Jazz is ambiguous.

You don't-let-mean-ol-Hatrina-pick-on-poor-lil-Prince folks are too funny! So, now you're backtracking, huh? I didn't feel I needed to quote the "faxed copy" statement, which was a more ridiculous statement than yours, as my post alluded to the general points made about apparent copying. This isn't about "picking on Prince"....its about about solid, qualitative analysis of what's before you - and those that hear "copying" in 2-pieces of music whose main similarity is simply style, either have a prejudiced agenda, no real appreciation of the finesse of music, or just need your ears cleaning (or, of course, all the above). [Edited 5/6/09 4:27am] ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...
