Hmmm, reminder? I don't remember those. You're not talking about the carrying cases are you?

Nope. Just the vhs cases that were used in the 80s. I do have some of those.

I don't know. I find that the jewel cases come apart too easily. I like the round, soft plastic cases some cds come in. Those seem to last longer.

Or round tin cases like the limited edition of the BATMAN album.

Oh, just those black cases with the leather "texture" on them. I thought it was something more. Yeah, those were cool, especially if they had that plastic strip/label holder around it so you didn't have to use a sticky label on it.

I like the cardboard ones better. I've never been a fan of the plastic ones because they always broke on me, or I can never get the booklets out without ripping them. I never keep them in the case anyway LOL:)

Bottom line: If the CD has to slide into something, be it cardboard or a CD wallet it's gonna get linear scratches. All those silver discs get put in jewel cases and CD-R copies are made for on-the-go CD wallets.

NONSENSE

I hate the jewel cases and the packaging that goes with it. It's one of the reasons I prefer digital over CDs. I takes 5 minutes to get a disc out of the packaging of those things. They're heavy & bulky.

I miss getting the lyrics more than i miss the plastic cases... Besides, I think most of our CDs and jewel cases will outlive us, lol, who's to say what will or won't end up in landfills?

For every album he's released in the 2000s, I've gotten a jewel case and had to cut the cardboard sleeve with scissors so it will fit in it because it's slightly bigger and wider. Even if I didn't put it in a jewel case, the cardboard wouldn't fit into a slot in the CD tower. If he's going to be cheap about it, at least make the cardboard the size of the jewel case so we can just slide it in without having to cut it.

As for the current album though, I didn't even go through all that though. It sounded so shitty, I just slung it in a drawer and forgot about it.

WOW!!! You need to take that cd set out of the draw and re-listen. Check out "DREAMER," and "WALL OF BERLIN!!"

I prefer the digipacks myself. Those jewel cases crack and the cover breaks off which I find annoying plus it's bad 4 the environment.

The Jewel Cases Need to come back. Many do not see it but the Jewel Case preserves the complete cd release package. The full color booklets are preserved better and the cd itself is kept better as well. The cardboard cases wear out in a short amount of time.

Environmental reasons, I do perfectly understand. But in fact, I'm a nostalgia-addict, so I really do miss jewel cases, and above all I'm thinking about my now-hard-to-find copy of Sign O' The Times as a double disc in a jewel case, about the luxurious The Hits/The b-sides 3 disc set, Emancipation, the psychedelic Crystal Ball (which had been available in 2 different physical editions, one round and one a regular jewel case).

But what I miss the most is the vinyl with big sized pictures, readable liner notes, posters inside and other goodies U could find.

Got ur eyes wet, huh?

Nevermind, I accept the digipak too, I'm ready to buy the new Prince album the way it comes out, but my memories are for me and I'll always keep my jewel cases.

the whole point is that a cracked jewel case can easily and cheaply be replaced, the result being your disc appears to be brand new... cardboard can not be replaced without repurchasing the entire package, and as another thread here discusses, the newer albums are not staying in print so you may or may not find a particular album to repurchase.
Really, this is a no-brainer when it comes to how long the product will last and remain in good condition, the only worthy disagreement here is the environmental issues. I for one would rather use less paper, recycled or not, than less plastic. For those that feel any plastic is too much, rip your CDs and sell them back to a used wrecka stow... instant recycle!
