Prince's Politics Ok, we all know that Prince is a Jahovah's Witness, and he doesn't vote, but he wasn't always a JV, I think he was a Baptise before that. I was just thinking on his political stances and views. I've never heard him directly say or refer to himself as being affiliated with any kind of political party, but he given us a body of political songs over the years.
1. Ronnie Talk to Russia 2. Party Up (At the end of the song). 3. Dance On 4. Family Name 5. Dr. Mr. Man 6. Right The Wrong 7. Colonized Mind 8. Cinnamon Girl 9. Planet Earth (More Socially concious than political). 10. Sign "O" the Times 11. Free 12. Live 4 Love 13. America While Listening to all of these songs I wondered if Prince was Right or Left, Liberal, Conservative or Moderate and if he's ever voted before. I think we've talked about him voting or not voting before, but I'm not sure if I've ever seen this particular topic before. If it's already been discussed, then my apologies. If he doesn't vote, or has never voted, then what is he trying to accomplish with these particular songs? Who is he trying to influnce? And is he indirectly trying to get people to vote how he would vote if he were to vote, is trying living vicariously (politically) through all of us with his songs? What other songs do you think have political overtones in them?

Jehovah.
And yes, I think Prince is quite hypocritical about talking on politics, yet he has no dog in that race. It's another isolation tactic by the JW's, lending even more to their status as a cult. He has no right to yammer on about the system, the man, or whoever he thinks is keeping him down, and has chosen to have NO part in the process. Gandhi said "BE the change you wish to see in the world." Prince has no idea how to do that. Yeah, he's the change in the music industry that he wants to see, but the world keeps turning, and we're in a tailspin right now. Him preaching about Mr. Man, and all that...eh. I totally discount anything he says in music or interviews when it comes to politics. Of course, when you proclaim that you ARE music, I suppose the world really revolves around you anyway.

These days, Prince be a Conservative on the streets and a Liberal in the sheets. His politics about as important as the politics of Brittney Spears. I mean when ur a highschool dropout, what kind of opinions could you have? Remember when ole gal told filmmaker Michael Moore that we should just trust Bush as he took us threw a bullshit war?

He is a citizen of the united states. He pays taxes. He has freedom of speech. He has as much a right as anyone. I didnt have a dog in the last presidential race either, neither am I part of any political party, yet I have my perspective. P just happens to be loyal to a higher government. That doesnt mean he cant weigh in on this eartly government/country that he resides in. Stand Up! Everybody, this is your life!

To be honest,
Prince has never been a writer of great, let alone good political lyrics. Occasionaly he succeeds, when he keeps it rather general (Sign of the Times, Money don't matter tonight) But lyrics like Ronnie talk to russia and Dear Mr. Man lack any kind of 'crux', and sound downward naive.

Perspective and non-participatory opinions are different. I have a perspective on the music industry, but until I'm officially a part of it, my opinion is based from the sidelines, not the playing field. P just happens to be loyal to a higher government.
That doesnt mean he cant weigh in on this eartly government/country that he resides in. Oh don't give me that higher power bologna. I'm a born again Christian, but I also recognize what Jesus said in the Bible about respecting government, and rendering to Caesar what is his, and to God what is His. Jesus came to fulfill the law, not ignore it and gripe about it. He was part of the solution, not the problem. Prince needs to STFU about government, until he casts a vote. It makes him a hypocrite.

A "higher government" has been used for centuries by the powerful to distract the population so they can be manipulated and exploited. God is not going to improve my kids schools and he sure as heck is not torturing "suspects" in my name.

Kinda reaching into thin air with this topic, aren't you? There are no Prince politics. One can derrive anything they want to from his lyrics.
