In A Large Room With No Light (Live) Is this the beginning of a new era in Prince's live shows?
My vote is yes. | |

would be nice . not as crazy as i thought i would be for this song live though . my biggest (and probably only real one) complain is that he didn't do the second verse . decent enough, i guess, though. am bumpin' the whole show now. sounds fucking awful life's a bitch, but god forbid the bitch divorce me...

why awful? not the show itself. the music is actually damn decent so far, when the lights go down . sound quality wise, it's not good in the least do to go edit [Edited 5/6/09 2:30am] life's a bitch, but god forbid the bitch divorce me...

But somehow I'm still thrilled. So much of the original song's magic was with the players involved. Wendy, Lisa, Sheila and Eric are perhaps my very favorite musicians he's ever worked with on a regular basis. And this was at the height of his recording powers. But the fact that he was even able to translate this song AT ALL live with a completely different band and still keep up with the changes, give it a unique spin and actually sing that cadence and melody and make it convincing is a testament to how fucking amazing he still is. I think the only way to truly capture the song's majesty would be to play it live with the original players, but this is a damn fine alternate interpretation. Loving this. [Edited 5/6/09 2:24am]

Bare in mind that this is the first ever outing of this song. The fact that it came fully formed makes me ecstatic about the possibilities of what he's ready to unleash on us with an upcoming tour. I would KILL to see this song live.

I really wish for a new era of live experiences. Also I'M YOURS, if I'm not mistaken, was never performed live. And a special tour with the 'triple threat' (read: 3 shows a day with 3 different setlists) would be killing and amazing. Well, 3 shows a day, twice a week maybe, the man got to rest somehow.

He has to bring the 'triple threat' on the road with him. He just has to. I honestly feel that this has the potential to be the greatest ever live era for him if he's ready to push himself and his bands this hard. Parade-Sign-Lovesexy and ONA/Xenophobia Celebration are gonna be hard to beat, but he seems totally ready to come out swinging.

I know this song although I'm not completely familiar with it.

Haven't listened to the show yet, but coincidentally, I was skimming through some outtakes yesterday for the first time in a long time and ...
Are there songs that you know you love, but you haven't heard them in a long time, and then for no reason at all you decide to listen to them and you're completely blown away all over again? Happened to me yesterday with In A Large Room With No Light. (and even moreso with All My Dreams and Witness For The Prosecution.) I was almost in tears with giddiness. Can't wait to check out this show.

Yes because I really don't know this song either as I am not a person who gets bootlegs cause wouldn't know where to get one for one thang!!! The other is because I am against it because I would not want someone selling something that I made and then make more money on it than I do and I am speaking from experience when I designed a shirt for a line of a frat and took it to a tshirt shop but move away after that only to come back for a visit and seeing others wearing that same shirt. Then to find that the shop owner was recreating my design and selling it like hotcakes. I was stunned cause I was still struggling to make rent.

I hope Prince does tour at some point. Sorry to hear your story. On the other hand, if Prince would release this stuff, he would be making more money on it than bootleggers. As it stands, he doesn't make any money off of it at all, only because he chooses not to, thus the demand for bootlegs in the first place.

Now the title would be the quiet 'Rebirth of the soul'

yeah like he was gonna sing the line "mf" lol man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

and if he took the set lists from the conga show and nokia room, through in ol skool company and more songs from lotus/mplsound this would b a tight show ..leave everything from the 1st show at the door ..let's get funky and new instead of tired and old man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

It has been close to fifteen years since I have had to pay cash money for a bootleg. Most fans aren't paying anyone for this stuff anymore. it's time for a new direction / it's time for jazz to die

And I love this live track. You like this? You want it? Yes and yes. Please and thank you. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Very much so
I mean Light was amazing. But the oddity of Jimmy Eat World was a jaw dropper. Him taking these chances are makig the performances stellar in my humble opinion. He is really stretching this go-round imo. I can't wait to see what's next.
