YEP! I thought that the first time I heard those opening chords.

Not the whole song, but that intro is exactly the same.

Moreso, the refrain sounds VERY similar to The Time's "Oh, Baby". Right?

I think that the stories are real similar but Somewhere Here on Earth sexy doesn't have the same sound music as Smokey's tune.

typing too fast edit

Same... he minute I heard Somewhere... I thought of Ooh Baby Baby. They go well together in a mashup... Just like Dreamer channels Jimi.

Inspired by, but not ripped off. A "rip-off" constitutes more than simply having a similar vibe, arrangement or chord progression. If that were the case, then anyone who's ever played the blues is equally as guilty. Sue 'em all! lol

Like I always say, there's only 12 notes used in traditional western music - and only so many combinations that actually sound 'harmonious' to our ears. So when you consider the vast amount of music that has been published over the past 100 years, it's obvious that there are going to be many similarities between songs along the way.

"Ooh Baby Baby" The intro to S.H.O.E. sounds a lot like "O.B.B." In my head I still sing "OOoowweeeeeooooohhhhh, baaaby baaaaabyyyyy" over the intro to S.H.O.E.

Even if you are, somehow, convinced that this is a rip-off....what, exactly, is your point? The Prince is a talentless plaigariser who has bluffed a musical career for thirty years? rolleyes

Jake,
I have always valued your opinion, but this is really a stretch! Thanks for the link, however, I have been missing me some Smokey!

I hate to break it too ya, but this time, I just don't see the connection and therefore I disagree.

^ It's not the whole song. BUt that intro, the bpm...very similar. The first time I heard "S.H.O.E.", I started singing "Ohh Baby Baby" over the intro, just because....well it sounded like it. Obviously once the song gets into the verse, the similarities are lost.
