I was there!
I remember this night like it was yesterday! I'd been to a gig in Birmingham the night before and didn't get home until 2/3am. I was bloody knackered. About 9am, I had a call from my mate saying 'Prince is playing London tonight... do you want to come?'. WTF?! Cue: running around my kitchen like a maniac, begging my bosses to give me a half day and packing a bag frantically. I hadn't seen Prince since the 2002 ONA concerts and I couldn't believe I was seeing him that night! It was too good to be true. It was a GREAT night - very intimate. He played a kickass version of 'Girls & Boys', who could forget the crazed fan, then Prince coming out and singing with a towel over his head?? It was worth the 5 year wait. And, of course, was a warm-up for the O2 gigs...

My memory gets a bit hazy here but - if I remember correctly - Prince invited a few people up on stage and whilst most kept their distance, she got a little, er, frisky. Prince sorta dived to the floor for cover and his bodyguards/stagehands leapt in and dragged her offstage. It all happened in a flash. Then Prince came out and stood at the mike, singing with a towel over his head. It was a totally bizarre moment - my mate and I were looking at each other thinking 'What the HELL is going on??'. I think Prince took it all in good humour, though - I was a little alarmed by how quickly the girl was dragged offstage but Prince said something about making sure she was looked after properly. It was just a very odd thing to watch.

During the concert several of the Purple One’s fans were pulled on stage to dance. In the throws of the insta-party moment, one over-excited fan reportedly gave Prince a kiss on the cheek inspiring the pop star to fall to the floor in a mock swoon. A bouncer didn’t get the apparent joke and removed the fan from the stage. Prince then reportedly appeared with his head wrapped in a towel. Funny guy! [Edited 4/30/09 9:00am]

I had never heard that. Amazingly weird, but comes w/ the territory I guess. The weirdest thing is how his immediate reaction was to hit the floor. Like 'If I'm down here, in a fetal position, you ain't taking me nowhere'. I'm not sure if that's something they teach in star school or something. He went straight for it.

Don't forget to bring a towel. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

It was all fine and funny until Prince hit the ground. At which point, the girl started to dry hump him like her life depended on it. That's when security stepped in. But Prince handled it perfectly and made a joke of it.

I that was me I would hit myself everytime I came to think of it... that must have hurt! I once deciced not to go to an afterparty, just because no one would go with me. From now on I will be happy if I can go to a Prince concert all by myself, then I don't have to bother with comprimising the evening - hell no!

I would be hitting myself if he hadn't done the O2 residency. Made up for it there with 12 main shows and 9 afters. Went to a few shows on my own too, as like you, I wasn't prepared to miss out on any Princely action. RIP

My brother was onstage. 2nd photo. Guy on the right with his hands in the middle of a clap. Prince had him sing part of Play that funky music. If the milk turns out to be sour, I aint the kinda pussy to drink it!

Oi Oi Phew, I thought you were going to say "My brother was onstage, 5th picture, straddling Prince." Speaking of which, it looks like I wasn't the only one with my hands in the middle of the clap. [Edited 5/5/09 15:29pm]
