Did the Prince Steal this Melody for "Possessed"

Go to 2:33 - "Gut Level" by the Blackbyrds.1974. Sounds a awful Like "Possessed"

First! Damn it does sound an awful lot like it. Maybe he had the record when he was younger and the melody was stuck in his subconscious. Nice Find!

Sorry it sounds like your typical JB grove.

Sounds more like a Jacksons song, circa 1980/81, like "Don't Stop (Till You Get Enough)" or "Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)".

That album also has Rock Creek Park on it, which is mentioned on Call The Law, so we know prince digs this album. It's an approximation of the melody but not an exact copy. maybe that's why it was never released (except on the purple rain tour video?)

You're listening to the groove, not the keyboard melody.

This song reminds me of Daddy Pop.

It's a very simple melody - the first 5 notes simply play the notes of a 7th chord on the 'on beat'... when you consider the amount of music that has been published over the last 100 years, it's pretty easy for something like this to happen. Pure coincidence.
