Prince & George Clinton... a question I was wondering...
Prince did full albums 4/with Mavis Staples, Chaka Khan and Larry Graham. He offered full albums 2 Miles Davis and Patti Labelle. But even though he had George signed on his label 4 2 albums, he just let him do his thing when he could have been highly involved or even co-write & co-record a whole album with George. Was it that... 1) George wesn't interested because he wanted 2 do his thing? 2) Prince knew it would have 2 involve George's musicians & there would have been too many drugs in the studio 4 his taste? 3) Prince was just too impressed by George as an artist/musician/songwriter & he felt that George just didn't need him at all? . [Edited 4/29/09 16:32pm] Where did you hear that he offered a full album to Miles? That's news to me. And from what I recall, there are early versions of many tracks on Hey Man Smell My Finger that features much more Prince input than were eventually released. Indeed, George gave an interview to Billboard shortly before the album was released where he said that Prince was all over the it. He went so far as to name specific tracks (other than "Big Pump") that Prince was involved in. That would suggest that your hypothesis is off a bit. [Edited 4/29/09 17:14pm]

[Edited 4/29/09 17:14pm] Prince sent the 1988 version of Madhouse's "24" 2 Miles and offered him 2 add trumpet & release it under Miles' name. I never really knew what Prince's involvement was or wasn't on the various "HMSMF" outtakes which r circulating. We'd have to ask Borisfishpaw 4 this because i have no clue. I also have no idea why Prince's involvement was "removed" if he was involved more than i thought he was. & Prince didn't touch "The cinderella theory" at all, . [Edited 4/29/09 17:42pm]

I remember clearly hearing about George signing to PP and why hyped as a muthafucker. Why? Cuz I thought that shit was going to be bangin'. I know P adored P-Funk and had crazy respect for George. That feeling from George was mutual, so there was NO excuse for this to not have been one of the greatest funk/rock albums ever. It had that kind of potential. They could have got Bootsy and Bernie into the mix and between them and P, they could have written some truly coldblooded shit. I heard that P incredibly was gun shy about working with George in the studio. Same thing was said about P on doing a collab with Miles. That's why P would constantly send Miles tapes of ideas when Miles was simply trying to collab with P face to face. P respected Miles so much that he was somewhat fearful to jam with Miles on the actual ideas. That's what I heard. I believe the Miles thing is printed in the book Prince: Life and Times by Jason Draper. Now as great of a musician P is, I don't know why he would trip off of that kind of shit. But the Cinderella Theory, besides having a great album title, that album was wack. I was sincerly let down. Don't know what the fuck happened to that shit. [Edited 4/30/09 1:23am] 4 one thing Sheila's 3rd album is NOT mostly Prince, Prince had nothing 2 do with 5 songs outta 10. Sheila's 1st 2 records ARE Prince all along (except 4 one track on "Romance 1600") Mavis' "Time Waits For No One" has Prince on 6 songs outta 8 and "The Voice" has him on 8 songs outta 12 (though his involvement in terms of finishing the stuff was much lighter). Chaka's "Come 2 My House" was basically all Prince even though he didn't write 3 songs but he plays almost every instruments on every track. Larry's "GCS 2000" was entirely composed by Larry except 4 one track which was co-written by Prince. But it was co-arranged & co-produced by Prince, who actually plays almost every instrument on it.

If George would like 2 have a song by Prince it's just 4 fun! just 2 collaborate & take a funny time with him... just good friends.

I remember the HMSMF demo/works in progress definitely had a Prince feel about them, but apart from another update of We Can Funk, Pony and Dis Beat Disrupts I can't pinpoint a specific Prince involvement. They still "feel" like he's on those early tracks though.
That brings up a good question... I'm not asking for them, just wondering. Are the HMSMF demos/WIPs floating around online? I know some of the later HMSMF versions/outtakes are around, but I don't think I've seen the earlier ones around. One more thing, I remember when I first heard the early versions of the HMSMF tracks and thought the album had to be done. That album was good in it's finished state (Martial Law deserved to be a hit!) but those early versions were just as good. It's really a shame that more stuff from that era never came out. Okay, I lied, one more ONE MORE thing! Anyone remember that track George did called Paradigm? I know Prince can be heard singing in the background, but does anyone know his involvement otherwise? Damn good track!

Damn good track! Prince cowrote & probably played pretty much everything on Paradigm, it sounds so much like him. OF COURSE these early demos r floating on the innernet, EVERYTHING is floating on the innernet.
