battle of power trios

ok we are not talking about who have better vsongs.
we talk about musicianship of these people
rate folowing trios with grades from 1 to 5 and tell why

cream, jimi hendrix expiriance ,npg power trio(sonny PRINCE and michael bland biggrin )
police

cream-4-sometimes eric clapton ginger and jacks
improvisation didnt go nowhere but overall great band

police-5 great power trio in the 70s but also on their recent reunion tour

jimi hendrix expiriance-4 only because of noel
redding his bass playing was weak and it doesn't
stuck to your memory .billy cox brought life to the early expiriance songs

npg poer trio-5-when prince sonny and michael
jam together they become power trio from hell
very hard hitting heavy sound with great jamming
always leaving you for more.

He's simply asking who are everybody's favorite Power Trios. Then he lists examples such as The Experience, Cream, P with Sonny and Michael, etc.
SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
nammie "What BGZ says I believe. I have the biggest crush on him."

Yeah, I totally understand what the op was getting at and that's a good question. Unfortunately, I probably don't enough about the musicians to give an educated answer.

Those are some of my favorite bands though. Imo, you can't go wrong either way. And speaking of Cream, I was just listening to "Crossroads". Wow, Clapton was in a zone. That song features a couple of the best guitar solos ever!

I have a better question.

How come it used to be called just a Trio. Like the Thelonius Monk Trio. They may also be considered a jazz trio.

Now, when it's a popular band, we called it a "power trio".

I could understand "rock trio", or "jazz trio" or "pop trio".

But why "power"?

WTF does that mean and where did it come from? What are they powerful with? Are they going to beat the shit out of someone and show their power?

A good classical symphony can be powerful. But we don't call that a power-symphony.

WTF?

I like this question. Because in trios you can usually hear the bass pretty well...

Hmmm... what about Rush?

I agree with the originator's thoughts... can't say that i'd be able to put a numbered ranking on the list. But,

I'm gonna add Love and Rockets to the list. I must be honest, Daniel Ash is the reason I took guitar lessons. Kevin is a solid drummer and David J. has it down too smile

they are called power trio because they played hard rocking blues influenced music with high voltage powered by marshall amps.
power trio sound is fat, gritty ,stanky and very loud.

You cannot really compare Cream or Jimi Hendrix with Prince's power trio in terms of originality or innovativeness. As who's the better musician, who really cares! And how would that be determined? Technical ability is a factor in most art, but it's only a small part of the picture. Originality, feel, and other more abstract aspects are much more important. My two-cents...
