...Rappers using Prince's stuff! i actualy like it, shows that they actually respect him as an artist. some of the stuff ive noticed was the rapper Lil Wayne remixing the Diamonds and Pearls song, and purple rain. recently Kid Cudi used Prince's controversy cd cover in his music video. has anyone seen anyothers? Be careful-because when I brought up Wayne doing my fav son D&P I was called a rap hater. I feel if they do a remake they should do it justice and do it right. But I have nothing against rap and rap artist. Some are very talented such a Wayne

Respect or lack of creativity and talent of their own? i wouldnt go so far as lack of talent at all. they may be remaking a prince song, but would you go to say that prince is lacking talent because he has copied a song before? hummm? Money don't matter 2 night

The best use of Prince's music with a rap artist that I've heard is on the first version of the "Purple Album," which is a remix CD of Jay-Z's "Black Album." The DJ mixed Jay's a capella verses from each song over different Prince instrumentals and choruses. It's no longer available (I remember it was wiped out from the net QUICKLY when it was released back in 2004, LOL), but that's some of the greatest hip-hop I've ever listened to. Not trying 2 be mean. Honestly, I hear u, but I think it is more a lack of talent than showing respect. True respect would be NOT 2 destroy the original. [Edited 4/30/09 10:58am]

Bang. That shit is the bomb. I have it on my hard drive. There was actually two "Purple Album"'s. For those who don't know, the trend at the time was to take the vocals from Jay-Z's 'Black Album' and mix themn with all kinds of other music. The most famous example was Danger Mouse's "White Album" that mashed up Jay's vocals with The Beatles 'White Album'. Anyway, there were two different "Purple Album"'s. One of them exclusively used music from 'Purple Rain' and the other one used all kinds of different Prince songs and the latter is the one I prefer. Here's the tracklist for it: 1. December 4th VS Little Red Corvette 2. What More Can I Say VS Diamonds & Pearls 3. Encore VS Hot Thing 4. Change Clothes VS Purple Rain 5. Dirt Off Ya Shoulder VS When Doves Cry 6. Threat VS Soft & Wet 7. Moment Of Clarity VS Do Me, Baby 8. 99 Problems VS DMSR 9. P.S.A VS Sign O' The Times 10. Justify My Thug VS Controversy 11. Lucifer VS Thieves In The Temple 12. Allure VS Insatiable 13. My 1st Song VS Kiss, Let's Go Crazy, and Darling Nikki It's easy to scoff but the way this DJ did it REALLY works, ESPECIALLY the mashup of Encore and Hot Thing. I think the DJ who did it, his name was D-Cyde. |

Respect or lack of creativity and talent of their own? Can be both. Could be that they're purple hippies also and/or they think that sampling his music would give theirs a boost. I swear the words "HATER" is wayyy over-rated...smh
