ernestsewell said: I love it to the point that I wore it. Yes, me.....a guy, wore that. It had a couple of slight modifications, like no fingerwaves on the side. But back in my hair styling days, I had the leeway to do that.
And when I'd get home in the evening, I'd tie a silk scarf (from back in my suit and tie days) around my head a la Prince in "Gett Off". I was a featured stylist in a Paul Mitchell hair show once, and I did a typhoon do on my model, and called it a Typhoon. It was a hit. Regardless of how it looks, that style must have taken hours to prepare. How could Prince walk around with that hairdo for such a long time ? Tons of gel and hairspray and two hairwashes every day ? That look is one of the most complicated hairdos I´ve ever seen. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Who said he watched it twice a day? Black folks ain't washing stuff everyday, but Prince might have each day, who knows. And yes, even on white hair it was a ton of gel and spray for the hairshow I was in. I had fingerwaves once and with the amount of gel I had in my hair, it felt like I had a skull cap on. haha I always thought his style was ingenious at the time. I loved the hanky tied around it too at times. The poster above, I have and, is one of my favorite all time pics of him.

Do you have any pictures from The Sacrifice of Victor book? I've posted these once in a thread, can't find the thread though. Maybe someone else.

CJanssen said: Carmen that's it! I loved that outfit too. I never liked him having a hat, but the scarves were bad ass. I dug the look during this time, to a degree. D&P started it, but the /HITS period redefined it. I hated that he cut it off during the mid 90's, but his look then was hot too. I love those videos simply because of the Paisley Park and Galpin house footage. Damn it girl, now I'ma have to pull out my DVD of it!

Wears More Make Up Than Me. Wears Four Inch Stilleto Boots. Changes His Name To An Unpronouncable Symbol. Who Changes His Name Back From An Unpronouncable Symbol. Oh And Most Importantly, Who Is Sexy Little Drop Of Butterscotch

I do realize he must have had looked laughable when perceived upfront in real life, but then again, this was the early-90s. You still had people doing crazy but rather uncool in retrospect -shit with their hair anyway. His must have been a pain in the ass to get done each day - as far as I know, he didn't really step out in the public without his hair done and make up done during those days.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot: Prince inspired me to get fake sideburns for myself when I was 15! They were just made of plain hair and gel! [Edited 4/26/09 2:54am] Yeh me2, I even did the fingerwaves with it. & I wore it 2 school 4 2years... in the late 90's. Nobody understood it & looking back, I really should have known better! lol. But it made me grow a very thick skin, which I would be nowhere without 2day! (D')

Imo, Prince had so much style during the Diamonds & Pearls - Love Symbol years, I have always loved this look 1991-1993.... what do you think of this era.. ? (credits: pic is from a Rolling Stone article, june 1993.) [Edited 4/25/09 13:47pm] [Edited 4/25/09 13:47pm] i like the 'do' but think this era was more about look than the music, whereas in contemporary times, Prince is all about the musicology...and still looking good
