I've had ONA live for 6 hours and I'm bored with it!

After ripping the shrink wrap off my ONA live box set and sitting down for the day, with the stereo blasting, I've decided to put my Coldplay CD back in the player.

Why? ONA is a good album (and it IS an album, not a box set), but there is nothing new.

Having been in one of the lucky countries to get the "World" tour, its quite clear a live album looses all the power of the original show.

Some of the songs are tired, and a lot of the "hits" which were re-worked so well on the European tour, have not made the set (SOTT, Gotta Broken Heart, Ladder, Empty Room etc).

As soon as I got to Take me with U/Raspberry Beret on the CD, I skipped them. I can't take them AGAIN!.

Also, alot of the tracks have the crowd singing, instead of Prince. This works in a show, but not on CD. Will Prince ever release a version of Nothin' Compares 2 U where he actually bothers to sing all the way through?

The biggest let down was the "It ain't over" CD. There are so many good tracks that could have made this disc, either from the ONA tour or previous years, but will are left with a disk with too much jamming.

Before anyone jumps down my throat, claiming some people will never be happy, or "send me your copy then", this is simply my view.

I'm glad I have this live album, as a memory of a great tour, but it won't make it out of the box very often, a bit like the demo CD.

But it doesn't come close to a fresh exciting studio album!

Out of 10...

Packaging = 9
Show disks = 5
It aint over = 3
NPGMC year 2 = 1

But not to worry!!

Within 2 weeks, my "other" albums will be arriving through my letter box.

Roll on Xenophobia and the best of Symbol! wink

Too much jamming???
To me, that's what an aftershow (mainly) is about.

BTW, you're headline reads like some celebrity mag! wink

To be honest i'm waiting til it hits retail, then i MAY buy it though i'm balking at the hefty price tag.I've heard this show so many times on so many bootlegs (but that's my fault) that i may pass on it.

BTW the best version of 'NC2U' is on a boot (can't remember the name), specifically detailing the 'nude tour' rehearsals. That is pure class, No Rosie, no audience, just Prince delivering a full length, heartwrenching vocal.

Nail on the head! That rehearsal vesion is the ONLY one I play. He actually bothers to sing, unlike in the show itself.

I start to lose interest (with added frustration) when songs include, crowd participation and half versions.

i'm mixed about the set so far...

I'm very happy to have it as it is SOOO PRETTY!

CD1 I like a lot. CD2 loses me...the medlies are maddening, and as has been stated there is way tooo much of audience singing and not P singing. That's FUN when you are at the show, but notfun to listen to at home. I haven't formed an opinion yet on "It Ain't Over"

At this point, though, I feel it'll be a cd which I set-out cos it looks nice, but rarely play.

i'm happy with the box set overall. but it's not gonna be in the player much.

i don't want to hear the TRC songs again. enough already.

i'm NOT into hearing the crowd singing - please.

i'm not taken with the medley format, and i'd forgotten about that until listening to the live set.

BUT, overall i dig the live energy of the set and am glad to have it

Hmm, that doesn't sound very promising. But would you mind
telling me what "Peach Xtended Jam" sounds like?

Is there a lot of guitar solo work on there? And does he
sing all the lyrics?

I'm asking since this is the song I'm most looking forward
too. I always like the ferociousness Peach gets when it's
played live. Some of the Glam Slam 94 performances of the
song were just amazing.

Peach Xtended Jam sounds nothing like the original, its sort of mid tempo and more funk than rock. Its basically a completelty new song, he mutters a couple lines of peach several minutes into it, but thats it. Its one of my fav tracks out of the set actually.

pretty much like tom said...nothing really like peach...and it IS quite funky, but, i dunno...i just think at some point they should go into the song, you know, at least play a VERSE or two. i prefer the version from the celebration. this one will probably grow on me though. the celebration has that real high, loud, boo-boo-doop!! sound that renato's got goin' on...if you've heard it, you know what i'm talking about...

and i LOVE the clinton joint. definitely one of the highlights. 2 nigs is also QUITE funky, and i still can't really recognize it.

That song with Musiq on the It Ain't Over cd is bad, very bad and totally steals the focus of the listener, why didn't he see/hear that? And who the hell is Musiq anyway...very bad decision to put that one on there!
