Than he re-did it after a meeting with her and she didn't (at least to him) show him any signs that she cared she just stood there and didn't run after him like the others. That's why he says are you really just gonna stand there like you don't care and than he tries to get her to move by telling her he could find another like her anywhere but than he knows he can't so that is why he goes into the things he loves about her. I hope if these songs are from real life that they can be together really soon but from what I get from it sounds like she's taken and he can't understand why she won't leave and come and be by his side.
I disagree. I think they've had a relationship. The part about spending all day in the mirror trying to find something to wear suggests they've lived together. The part about her liking to make love on the stairs or the desk corners tells me they've been lovers. My sense is that it's lost love - not unrequited love. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

3121 version is electrifying. To me, that song & "A Million Days" really capture the desperate turmoil of the emotions they convey. In both music & lyrical delivery.
Most songs that deal with the sadness of love often focus on one specific emotion. Whereas these examples communicate the rich tapestry of conflicting feelings. And for that, I love them.

The track is rife with feigned passion.
I like the production though. One of the better cuts from 3121 - although that's not saying much...

Quick question - was the original a NPGMC-era track?

the original was released through the music club. I hated that version and was gutted to see it coming on 3121. I was however, delighted with the re-working, love it. RIP

Genesia said: What he did to this song on 3121 is almost a sin. It started off as a song that expressed a very appealing (and universal) vulnerability about falling love (on The Chocolate Invasion) and ended up as a bitter, overwrought diatribe against a bitch who done him wrong.
I understand why he reworked it (he was expressing a total change in feeling toward one he feel in love with). But I love the uncertainty and humanity he expressed in the earlier version. I don't get that from it all... not at all...I don't hear any bitterness in there, or anything about her being a 'bitch', funny how we hear different things in lyrics, probably depending on our own personal experiences, state of mind etc etc.. I hear someone who's loved and lost, and is kind of scared of going there again, because she means so much to him, and for one reason or another they can't be together... or is that just me..?! I love how it's like two people singing it too, there's also the 'woman's voice' on there .... both of them are feeling the same way, I hear a LOT of vulnerability on that song, and it's one of the reasons it touches me so much. The piano is just beautiful too.

Since he uses two different voices, its hard to figure out what each of the two personalities would do. How they would move and act. Would they fade into one another or would they appear in scenes together (with the help of today's technology)? When I find the time, I'm sure I'll come up with something interesting

it's just classic [Edited 4/24/09 10:06am] I sho nuff do!!! That song came on my iPod shuffle the other day and when it got to the scream, man, I was ready to scream my damn self! Everytime I play that song, I have to rewind it back to that part so I can hear him scream like that again. That's scream was powerful! All his screams are powerful. One of the few complaints I have with the current music is that he doesn't scream enough in his songs. That's the scream of passion right there man! Sheeeit!!!! I need to put The Dance on right now damnit! I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
