But if I understand your point, I agree, and I think he's never really ignored his past. I've never seen him NOT play Purple Rain, and there's only one post '84 tour I know that he didn't play it. I think he does try to move forward, but he's pretty in love with his past, too. He can't stop singing DMSR even though he doesn't cuss and tries to deny that he has ever had sex or even a lustful thought He brings back Wendy & Lisa. He did a sequel to PR. Gold is nothing if not a wannabe PR II, as is Last December. How do we know Cora is better than Bobby, he most likely has gotten better since 1986 and I know he is still drumming and doing studio technician work alright whenever ur hear about prince's x band memebers around the mpls scene, in the bars/clubs what have u, have u ever heard bobby's name mentioned sitting in with some one? naw ur hearing about michael b, sometimes kirk still gigging, and u know u hear about john blackwell. how come no bobby? tell ya why not..at the very 1st celebration when 3 members of the revolution came up on stage with prince, bobby was behind the drums and was TIRED after drumming 2 mins..prince gave bobby a solo and bobby couldn't hang with it so kirky j went back in on drums. cora however not that great imo can do something behind the drums..now if bobby was still keeping his chops up..then who knows what could come of it. man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

That would be crazy! I saw Dr. Fink playing in Minneapolis last summer and it confirmed what I always thought. Fink was Prince's weakest keyboardist. He just is not on the skill level of Renato, Tommy or the others. I cannot see him adding anything to Prince's music now. as much i like tommy, i've felt that fink runs circles around tommy..now having renato and fink on keys at the same time man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I've seen Prince without Mr hayes for sure and without Renato as well. One is NPS, the other Rainbow Children. Rhonda & Sheila E, reaching back to the past as far and even farther. Please Well, actually: Morris joined the NPG in 92 Rhonda in 96 Renato in 02 They may not have been with him consistently since then, but I don't think Prince bringing them back is a nostaligia trip. Pulling the best players he's worked with together is a good idea, no? Common sense^^^^^

Renato fits Prince's '00s jazzier style. I think the key to the criticism of newer Prince bands vs the Revolution is that the Revolution had style to make up for where they lacked the technical proficiency of his NPG lineups. Diamonds & Pearls sounded like a bunch of generic studio musicians when I first heard it. There's something to be said for that, too, but I didn't like it at first. [Edited 4/24/09 17:12pm] My Legacy

[Edited 4/24/09 17:12pm] Compare the D&P band to the Band that did Gold, Exodus and Chaos & Disorder. Once the band tightened the hell up, Prince went to training a new band. Think of what NewPowerSoul would have been with tommy, sonny & Michael B instead of a new lineup. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

He has a website and Myspace, he has some seriously tight stuff

Most of his Ultrasound album is pretty good. He told me Prince really liked "Nebulosity" from the album. It didn't surprise me because it's very trippy, and seems like something Prince would enjoy. It was a decent first solo album, although he did a lot of music for K-Tel in the 90's. During the boom of the angels and vampries era of the 90's (post Lestat), he put together two compilations for K-Tel called Music Of The Angels, and another one about vampires. He wrote and produced it all. Wasn't bad stuff really.

When most people around here(And I'm included and had to rethink that) talk about Bobby as a drum that deal with it in a way that says in 1986/87 Bobby stopped playing drums, But Bobby continued and no doubt has increased or matured his craft. Unless he stopped all together.

That sort of sounds familiar, but I am not sure. He wasn't doing anything with them when I last talked to him, which was the week after the Family Jamm. Worked with/for: Lexington Bridge feat. Snoop Dogg, Jimi Blue, Popstars On Stage Allstars Prince, The Revolution, NPG, Lipps Inc., The Time, Vanity 6 and many more Only recently his focus turned back to Pop Music, as current biggest pop-albums by Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado are picking up a long lost reference to the sounds that he once helped defining. http://www.doctorfink.com/ From Berlin dance floors to British airwaves to Grammy Award winning stages in the States, Matt “Dr.” Fink’s signature sound occupies an irresistible place in music history. Cunningly clad in surgical scrubs as Prince’s award-winning keyboardist in The Revolution, this player-turned-producer modestly shrugs when asked if aware of the impact his music has had on the artists and producers of today. With over thirty R.I.A.A. Diamond, Platinum and Gold Awards, MTV, Grammy and American Music Awards for the albums Dirty Mind, Controversy, 1999, Purple Rain, Around The World In A Day, Parade and Sign O’ The Times- not to mention appearances on releases by The Time, The Jets, Ashanti, Vanity 6, Mavis Staples, Lipps Inc. and more- it’s no wonder the “Dr.” is in on speed dial with the likes of Timbaland, Timberlake, The Neptunes as well as Diddy. In 2009, as evidenced by his appearance on Diddy’s Making The Band series, the good “Dr.” continues to make house calls. He travels the globe working with artists such as Danity Kane (Bad Boy Records), Making The Band’s Seven Auralius as well as Ken Lewis protégés Man On Earth. Back home in Minneapolis, he owns and operates StarVu Studios- a playground for all things unique and the birthplace of cutting-edge pop songs by hit-making artists from all over the world.
