Crimson and Clover - very nice live version. He owns this song now. Who ever said Prince has lost it - has lost it. The Kid's still got game!

Pulling the best players he's worked with together is a good idea, no? Keeping a band long enough to build a professional relationship around is a good idea. He's always starting new bands just when the old band is finding it's footing and voice. Why not keep great band members to begin with intstead of constantly having to train a new one? I love that he's working with these people but find it hilarious that Prince needs to reach back in time to have a decent sounding band I'm confused. Sheila is the only one from the past and Renato and Morris have been in the most recent incarnation of his band. So, whatchu talkin' 'bout Supa????

SupaFunkyOrgangrinderSexy said: I have no idea Point is, they were out of the scene at least for a little bit.
Since when does that exclude their contributions or them ever coming back to contribute again? Why does everything have to be so black and white in stone? I've seen Prince without Mr hayes for sure and without Renato as well.
Hayes was gone just a few years, but he's now the longest surviving Prince band member. He has the most years. Fink was one to hold that until recent years. Hayes has been back since 3121. One is NPS, the other Rainbow Children.
And? Rhonda & Sheila E, reaching back to the past as far and even farther.
See above. Since when do people in Prince's band NOT have a right to leave and do their own thing, whether an album or a tour w/ someone else, and come back? Sheila was playing for and with Prince as early as 2001 or 2000 in the Celebration at Paisley Park. Probably 2001, because the NPGMC was in its first year. Was he reaching in the past then? Why can't people just be friends who play music together? It's not like being discharged from the military, and they've all been issued their separation papers. Talk about wanting dramz. Anything past yesterday is the past.

NOT ONE CURRENT BAND MEMBER in otherwords, Prince is living in the past! Not sure I understand this point either...however, I didn't think it was a secret that Prince likes the past (contrary to what he and his enablers might think/say). Heck, what did his recent performance of "'Ol Skool Company" on Leno begin with? • Did you first think Prince was gay? •
Wendy: He’s a girl, for sure, but he’s not gay. He looked at me like a gay woman would look at another woman. Lisa: Totally. He’s like a fancy lesbian.

You shouldn't! You know, when bass players reach a certain age, they love to sit their asses down during performances. Uurybody else will be up and grooving, and they just sit there on a chair or something, just holding the bottom in their own little world, cause they don't give a f*****ck ....I gotta admit, her sitting on a stool is what I would normally expect, but the couch and her in those stillettoes was an extra fabuuu touch

It's not unusual for bass players to sit during live performances. Usually they're on some tiny little stool or seat, but the couch definitely gave a dramatic flair to it all. I liked it

Sheila E, played with Prince just years ago at the Brit Awards, the NAACP Image Awards, and was at the Celebration at Paisley Park. Rhonda, around the same time as Renato. So...how is this living in the past especially the 80's? Oh right....it's not. NEXT Rhonda took over Bass duties after Sonny T left in 96. way before Renato. Josh & Cora were attending a youth music event in D.C., so couldn't be at the taping anyway.
U all know I love Sheila and Rhonda... hell, Rhonda used 2 get me on the guest list 4 several D.C. shows, back before there were member tickets. But I'm tired of the seeing Josh & Cora being so grossly underrated here. They SLAM in Prince's band, and don't forget their presence on the Lotusflow3r album. That's them on "Boom", "The Morning After", "4Ever", "$", and "DREAMER". "He's a musician's musician..."

you have to realize that every performance on leno and ellen had a completely different lineup. he is creating his own team and determines the "starters" based on his performance.
and ... since they are actively playing with him ... i would say the ARE current band members.

I've worked with. U R wrong about Cora. She does have a "voice" on drums, and she every bit as powerful as ANY drummer Prince has had. She's solid on the skins, and beats the HELL out of her hi-hat and cymbals where appropriate. Just because they're not featured as much as previous bass and drums, and play in the background most of the time, means nothing. [Edited 4/24/09 7:37am] "He's a musician's musician..."

He works with some great musicians and unless they've really had a problem with him (? Mr Fink ?) why shouldn't they come back occasionally ? Eric Leeds on the ONA DVD for instance - really added to the material, and it was totally 'his bag' What has been really good recently is Prince selecting 'dream' lineups to interpret the particular slant of various songs. I love the way all these different musicians add to Prince's original ideas or interpret them with their own style (as much as they are allowed!). No 80s revival - just reusing great musos !
