Why did he choose 2 cover Crimson & Clover ? I wonder why Prince chose to cover Crimson & Clover ?
C&C is an okay song, but imo. it's not an obvious choice - there are so many others he could have chosen, right? - was he desperate to have a hit song, and he couldn't write one himself? Imagine you could read Prince's mind: why do you think he made this cover? Prince 4Ever.

This may have been his choice for a more mellow song, only Prince knows. Whatever, it sounded damn good to me. Prince u mutafuckin' rock! Songwriting comes from an original heart...and although musicians have their own styles and songs...Prince is a music listener also. Prince is fond of this romantic classic rock-n-roll song. [Edited 4/25/09 17:59pm] "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

Its a classic. What I dont understand why did he omit the lyric "I wanna do everything." He's a now a prude?

I have two two or three theories...
1. He likes the song. 2. He knew he could make some new art by adding his guitar to it. He knew the song would sound great with his tone. 3. He was smitten by a red-haired (crimson), Irish (clover) girl.

good question?
it is not a song that exactly appeals to anyone under 50 guitar solo does not fit the song he could have performed a new one and probably gotten a few more people interested in buying the new release etc, etc, etc, but he is Prince go figure

To go after some of that Joan Jett "Fancy Lesbian" swag. [Edited 4/29/09 14:30pm] "The first time I saw the cover of Dirty Mind in the early 80s I thought, 'Is this some drag queen ripping on Freddie Prinze?'" - Some guy on The Gear Page

Imagine you could read Prince's mind: why do you think he made this cover? We don't know why he choose it of course, but for me, I am an oldie and I know that was a cool song very very long ago. I like Prince's version better than the original.

It has that '60s psychedelic vibe, combining it with Wild Thing just emphasises that.
