In your experience, which album do people most agree about, and which album do people most disagree about? I'm not talking about wether people think the album is good or bad, just which album is there most consensus about, and which is there least consensus about?

With the hit albums, you get a lot of consensus:
1999 Purple Rain Dirty Mind The Gold Experience are raved about the most, I'm sure. SoTT and LoveSexy are as well, but there are still people that don't think. There's a sharp divide on a lot of albums. The Rainbow Children would be one of those "you like it or you dont" type of works... but there might actually be a middle ground (and I just crossed into it a few weeks ago). A lot of the 90's albums probably get the most disagreement but it was a weird decade. At the moment, I can't remember the exact album where everyone had different opinions on that it was INSANE had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

I've realized that TRC is one of those "like it, don't like it" albums. I'm in the middle on TRC. In general though, it seems that prince fans are a very diverse crowd.

One thing I have noticed is that I'm probably one of the biggest outliers if we were to take a consensus of everyone here.
Chances are there will be albums raved by certain people that I don't as much. The Black Album (I like it, but I just like other albums better), The Rainbow Children (I'm in midst of crossing over though) There's even more likely that there'll be albums I love that people are the exact opposite. Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic Planet Earth I happen to be fans of, but in both cases, I have people giving me these kinds of looks ...the list goes on had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. Rave has some really good songs like I Love U But I Don't Trust You Anymore and Baby Knows, and Planet Earth has some really good moments like Future Baby Mama and The One U Wanna C. They're not as good as the 80s albums but the difference is not so much the quality of the bad songs. I mean for instance, I don't think Mr Goodnight is worse than Tambourine. The difference is that the really good songs on the 80s albums are even better.

Sign 'O' The Times when it comes to the most consensus, no doubt about that one I think.
Least consensus, maybe The Rainbow Children? I think it's crap but it seems many fans here are loving it. Also, MPLSoUNd seems to be divisive as well, but it's a new one so we can't decide just yet.

In my reading experience here...I would say that the majority of people agree on "Sign of the Times," being a special highlight in Prince's career.
Although I am one that believes that, "The Rainbow Children," is ahead of it's time musically, holding a sincere spiritual message...There are a lot of people that don't connect with this feeling 4, "The Rainbow Children." I'm sure that most of Prince's sincerest fans...appreciate every song he has ever written. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

Yeah, I love Rainbow Children, but I can certainly see where it might turn a lot of people off. I think it's too soon for most people to make up their minds aobut MPLSound and the other new stuff. I know I usually need a few months (sometimes much longer) to decide what I really think of an album. Do you think there is general concensus that New Power Soul is crap?

I think there is, probably with Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic as well. But not Chaos & Disorder though, that seems to be a bit divisive.
