Prince and drugs... How many times do you suppose Prince has smoked marijuana? -------
A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti... "I've just had an apostrophe!" "I think you mean an epiphany..."

I don't know if he smokes it now, but I am sure that he has used some drugs in his time... we know about the ecstasy experiment... who knows what else that druggie has tried.

Did anyone ever see Mr. Hayes when he wasn't high? I'm thinking that occasionally he had to share with his boss.

Gonna have to look behind the studio building at the next celebration. Minnesota is an ideal place to please Mary Jane to go all the way to the top.
That brings me to the next point. Going there from Europe means to overcome those nice little beagles at the US-airports. Somehow they are always pleased to see me. Any locals going to the celebration that could help me out and avoid me being sent back with the very next plane? .......................

Anyway, I don´t know if I´m wrong, but I hardly can´t remember any song that is directly about drugs.
Usually if you sing about sex, the drugs also come along in many cases, but, not in the case of prince I guess... and, today I think he hardly smokes anything, I mean, if he doesn´t eat meat, hardly drink alcohol, and interupt during a days of wild gig for someone smoking a joint, I guess he is pretty concerned about that "drug problem".. or waddayathink? /Shun.

mh The love we make...is about fucking up your life with drugs
Pop Life...what are you putting in yor nose...is that where all your money goes[/quote] The Love we make is about the Return of Christ to claim his own and to punish the wicked, The only Love there is. Is the Love we make, (not sex) Make Love and not War, and hatred and all the wicked things. Pop Life is another song about being punished for your bad doing, What you putting in your nose, is that where all your money goes, the river of addiction flows, you think its hot, but there want be no water, when the fire blows. its about Hell! Punishment. Think about what you are doing. thats what the song is about. How you gonna get my back when you fronting.

I was surprised at "Now": Fill us with de dope track, Lick us, Twist us, Roll us in your mouth, Light us up and take a hit, light us up and take a hit, Suck us till we're dry And when we're looking' like a roach hit the lights. OK, so it's not about drugs exactly, it's about the music, but it's a pretty explicit metaphor! Party On, Prince! I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, keep me here.

lovemachine, you called that! Maybe these others never met Hayes, but I know of what you speak. Notice that Hayes didn't get canned when the rest of the NPG did? Was that cause he was the hook? lol. Read those unreleased lyrics to "back then"? I think the message is pretty .

i think prince should be able to use as many drugs as he likes.. i can see him hallucinating and thinking he was "average height" or something wild like that (i was gonna say tall but hey..they don't make drugs like they used to)..

THe Love We Make, was written for Wendy Melvoin's brother, who died from a heroin overdose. Check the liner notes on Emancpation, it says who it is for. The song is basically saying that we should focus on loving each other, loving God and that we should be thankful for all that we have, not clouding our minds with "the needle and spoon" ie taking heroin.
Personally, I think Prince has tried a few drugs at least. We know of the ecstacy incident, I find it likely he has at least tried LSD, and he has probably smoked dope. I doubt he is a "frequent flier"(!!) though, so to speak! There are many lyrics thoughout Prince's music that can be taken as anti or pro drugs, all depends on your own interpretation. Isolating one of his lyrics will not give you the man's outlook on a topic. Eg, someone quoted below the lyric from SOTT, about starting on reefer then ending up on heroin - does this mean that Prince is anti-drugs? Not necessarily - it could be that the point here is that, with our present system, how is it that someone can start on relatively harmless dope and end up on something as terrible as heroin? Is it because we don't educate people, that society is uncaring enough to allow it to happen - the point is, one cannot assume from a lyric so vague and out of context as to what his stance is. Something else that ought to be appreciated is that people's attitudes and beliefs change over time. I see many people quoting Prince from songs that are nearly 20 years old and saying, "Well, he said this before, is he going against what he wrote?" ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

All,I know is alot of people around him were into Drugs so he probably tried some himself. Seems like they were all into Pot. I don't think you can be around people so closely and not Know they are Abusing. It's Unhealthy and I wouldn't wanna be hanging with Unfocused People cause you never Know what they're gonna be Feeling from one day to the next and all Stupid. If you Care about your Body and your Mind you stay away from Drugs because you will Ruin your Temple so to Speak.

I do not think Prince is a Hypocrite at all and I believe him when he says he doesn't do Drugs. I would never want him to take an Overdose or get Health Problems. Look at what happened with Denise Matthews and Cocaine. It's very Unhealthy and he doesn't need a Heart Problem.

Natasha - I care about my body and my mind, but I still use drugs (and you undoubtedly do too!).Not everyone gets themself in to a mess on drugs, same as not everyone who drinks alcohol becomes an alcoholic. Its about moderation and actually knowing what you are doing and why! Mis-information, misconceptions and a lack of pride or sense of ones-self are far more dangerous than the drugs themselves.
And anyway, my body ain't a temple...it's a nightclub! ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...
