Prince Happy On Stage

I'm watching a Prince DVD (to be revealed later), and there's a certain section of the concert where it hit me, "He's really happy right there. He's just having a ball, truly."

What concert moment(s) do you remember thinking Prince was just happy to be there, enjoying the music, the crowd, and it wasn't just a job or a gig, or whatever?

Just a few:

Parade tour...
he was lettin somebody throw stalks of flowers to him so he can catch them wit his mouth (too cute) giggle

Lovesexy tour...
When he was playin with the crowd durin "Let's Go Crazy".

Musicology tour...opening night...
* After "Controversy" right down to the end of that 'music only' segment.
* Again from "You Got The Look" right down to the break.
* and again, just at that moment he went flat on his tummy and touched ppl hands durin "Purple Rain" (that looked so sweet and the smile on his face said it all).

I personally feel that he enjoys himself most when he's interactin wit the crowd
*note: it's jus a personal opinion*
I swear the words "HATER" is wayyy over-rated...smh

I was watching Rave Un2 The Year 2000 (I ripped it to M4V format to put on my AppleTV), and during the section with "Gett Off", "It's Alright", and "I Wanna Take You Higher" and "Everyday People", he just seemed to be strutting around with a big smile on his face, not caring if he was even on the microphone. It was also fun to see him to the splits again, especially since now he hardly does anything like that because of his hips and the pain he is experiencing at times.

I just remember thinking "Wow, he's really happy right there. No Mayte drama, no record company angst. It's just him, his music, his friends, and a few lucky fans, having a party." It's almost like he wasN'T on stage, and he was just hangin' out.

Yeah I know exactly what you are talking about. I have that concert on dvd too. I hope he comes to Florida this year cause I would love to see him just enjoying himself in person. But if not, a dvd documentary will always work. lol

I was watching the Live at the Aladdin DVD today, and noticed a couple of moments where that toothy grin of Prince's popped out - those little instances where he lets the mask slip and shows us he's really enjoying himself.

I think he loves performing, and it's obvious he's more comfortable on stage in front of a large crowd than in more personal situations, but he does have a keen awareness of how he looks, how his actions affect the crowd and is really concentrating in terms of making sure everything and everyone is working perfectly. The moments he gives away that true emotion are quite rare, and utterly infectious as well.....
So look into the mirror, do u recognise some1? Is it who u always hoped u would become, when u were young?

I skimmed through Aladdin today (I ripped it to the Apple TV as well). I just can't get into that tour's stuff. I don't like the overtly jazzy arrangements he does, I didn't like the preaching with the racial stuff, and some of the songs were butchered. All my two cents of course.

He was having an absolute blast at the Empire Ballroom show on May 28, 2006 - especially during the soundcheck. cool

I will say there was one moment during Musicology in Philly when Prince left the stage and came our way to head below for a break (we were front row). He gave us this look and shook his head like 'WHOOO!!!' and had this giddy 7 year old, just opened the gift he pleaded with Santa for, ear to ear grin on his face. He bounded down the stairs and I just felt and said to myself, "wow, this guy is right where he wants to be, doing exactly what he loves to do".
