It is what it is: the latest Prince release and it's what he has been writing and recording most recently. This is Prince, for better or worse, in 2009.

I'm not really sure that it needs to be anything more than that. Prince, nor any other recording artist, owes you or me anything. He doesn't have to record or release anything. When he releases a new CD, we get to hear what he's been up to in the studio if we so choose. We don't have to buy it, we don't have to listen to it, and we don't have to like it.

Any expectations beyond "here's the new Prince CD" are yours. I don't recall Prince saying "this is my new CD and it's going to blow your mind and you're going to love it!".

So why set yourself up for that sort of disappointment when Prince didn't do that to you?
