Forget the commercials. Planet Earth had them too. I'm starting to think that they only work for the first week. Despite overall low sales for the music industry, I still believe that the most important promotional tools are radio and video. There was a lot of either one or the other for Musicology and 3121. Prince has neither for Lotusflow3r. I like the album, and hope it goes Gold; but it's going to be tough without any of those in his favor. I hope the appearances help. Can't hurt, right?

This release has had more tv promotion and visible advertisement than anything since Emancipation, imo. huh? how so. Are you serious? Not only has there been building hype in the press for months now about the albums, release parties, and the website itself but, also, Prince made multiple TV appearances, and Target had an add playing constantly including broadcasts during TV shows that regularly pull 15-30 million viewers, American Idol being one of them. I can't think of anything remotely close to the above since E. It would have been really good if he could have made an arrangement for Target to run the ad for a longer period because that seems to be the primary marketing tool that got them in to make a purchase.

Lotus Flow3r had such a circus revolving around the release you would have sworn Prince was releasing a Purple Snuggie! This record had a major ad/promo campaign for both the record and the site. Prince would never have charted high without it, but the numbers prove the fact that the record sucks and has zero staying power. If you've heard it you will know exactly what I mean! Only Prince can release 3 records worth of material and get it all wrong. It's amazing to say the very least, but sad too! No ads/Promo.... Hahahahahahaha!!! BS The comments on the org have reached an all time low..... ....all the info need to make a comment on Prince's current chart success because that's what it is and within the thread there are 3rd party links and this dummy writes a post like this....come on! This is 2009 not 1984 .....for 2009 Prince has a hit record get with the times people ...stop living in the 80's....it's over.... Da, Da, Da....Emancipation....Free..don't think I ain't..! London 21 Nights...Clap your hands...you know the rest..

A commercial can only do so much if there's no single on the radio or video channels for people to be able to judge the sound of the album.

Comments please. Considering the market this year, that's a pretty good number. But it's been like this since 3121 (it took six months for that album to go gold), and I never found out how many copies Planet Earth ended up selling...

Whether or not you believe in singles being an important part of today’s music industry …. A triple album that lacks the one killer single to launch the whole project is the reason the sales will diminish asap.
Prince has 150,000 loyal fans that will buy anything new … but that’s about it in 2009. He might have to try a little harder if he wants to win over some new fans … or try mixing up his studio recording formula a little.

I think a commercial aired during American Idol has reached more potential purchasers than any song or video he's had in rotation since the mid-90's. He could do better with the album on iTunes (even if it wasn't specially priced) but it's his choice not to list it there.
