Better with Time is one of his best ballads in years... The last part is so grand and pompous it reminds me of the Prince that wrote Condition Of The Heart. This song is a real grower and shouldn't be overlooked. I would take this over mediocre dirge like Call My Name and Satisfied anyday.
I just love his vocal delivery on this part: "A jury of my peers would find me Guilty of so many crimes if I..." Let me hear some love for this track...

It is one of my favourites from MPLSoUND (although I dig pretty much every track on that record except the opener).
His layers of stacked vocals in the middle instrumental section are divine. The sound of heaven itself...

I love it too, especially the ending.
I often find that it is the slow ones I end up skipping. Stuff like Somewhere Here On Earth, Future Baby Mamma, Satisfied and the like, usually have me reaching for the skip button. But with MPLSound, I like all the slow ones. The only track I don't really care much for is Chocolate Box. RIP

The song is beautiful...and once again...the lyrics are so sweet and kind. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

I am totally in love with this song. Yesterday I played it at work for 3hrs straight.
I had this same feeling with Adore. I would love to hear an instrumental / background vocal version of this and Adore. Yes , but "The Dance " from 3121 is 10 times better.
Actually I love The Dance just as much as BWT. Right now I can't pick one over the other, so I'll choose both. What am I supposed 2 do when the President can't get nothin' passed?

It's alright--don't think it's better than Call My Name

I noticed people have been sleeping on this one. Its my favorite on Mplsound. nice guy.

I think it's great ... up until the ending.
He hits "what is age but a cage?" and cues the cheesy, jewelry-store-radio-ad ending he's been doing since Emancipation Disc 2, and I'm all a-grittin' my teeth.

I swear the words "HATER" is wayyy over-rated...smh

'Cheesy, jewelry store ad ending'...HA HA HA! that's priceless. And I agree. Love the melody and lyrics but not so much the production. think it would have been better with a simple piano- ala Love U But Don't Trust U...

the over-wrought vocals where his harmonies kind of, i don't know, "quiver" at the end sort of turn me off, but otherwise i like the song, even the ending - at least the music.
of course we know it's all bullshit, based on the stable of 23 year olds he continues to date

'xactly. I doubt we'll ever see him with a gray-haired love interest. Heck, all his wigs are jet black...

It's definately a highlight of MPLSound, it does fall under the weight of it's own schmaltz by the end though.

... though I will say he's singing from 2:00 to the 2:10 mark... Reminds me of Patti Labelle on those runs...

My big complaint about this song is that it's not obvious who this is about unless you're a stalker. Otherwise it rings hollow because how can Prince tell someone aged when he's only known them for 20 minutes 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Melody wise, its a gem. .

Considering who it's about, and the type of movies she is in, somehow it's structure and the over the top-ness of it seems to fit, imo.

Fact. It was in a recent interview. Someone pull up the link

I was thinking that, exactly 20 years on, it sounds like a musical reply to his Mavis Staples track "Time Waits For No-One". "Had to get off the boat so I could walk on water..."

I don't know why so many fans dislike the ending - to me, that's the best part. Okay, it's ridiculously OTT and slightly pompous... but that's Prince all over isn't it?
I think I like it even more now I know who it was written for. I wasn't even aware that Kristin and Prince still knew eachother...

My fav parts of the song are the multi-vocal ooooos and from "a jury of my peers..." right down to the end.
I get chills and I jus be from ear to ear I swear the words "HATER" is wayyy over-rated...smh
