I didn't mean that nobody would've complained about a 12 song Emancipation album. Of course some would not have liked some of the songs. I meant that they would not have complained that it wasn't 36 songs (if he hadn't mentioned plans for a 50 song album in that magazine).
I knew what you meant. I was just highlighting that it's still the org, complaining is in its very fabric. biggrin

smile

I see the advantages with a slimmed down Emancipation, but of course there are advantages to the three disc album we have today, there's more music. We all have our opinions smile

Interesting, none of those would come close to inclusion for me.

oh u think so? i'm still complaining that it was only 36 songs instead of the 50 that he talked about during the esquire gentleman interview

But if he hadn't talked about a 50 song album would you have complained about there not being 50 songs?

If he says that there is going to be 50 songs then some will be disappointed if he then breaks that suggestion/promise. But if he hadn't talked about making a 50 song album people would not complain if he had released it as say a 12 song album. I don't here people complain that 3121 should've been 40 songs.
[Edited 4/21/09 14:48pm]

i'm satisfied with the 3 hours of music he released ..then was 4tunate 2 hear the other songs left off it making it almost the 50 song album i was promised so i'm all good on that thumbs up!

and as 4 3121, there was a complaint about it being under a hour's worth of music
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I have noticed a number of threads like this lately. One of the best things about being a Prince fan is that we get soooo much music, and some of us apparently want to decrease that.

I say that we should be happy with the way things are. Imagine being a fan of some group that releases an album every 3 or 4 years. Furthermore, imagine that album has about 15 songs, 7 of which are so-so. This is something we do not have to deal with and I am glad about that.

I'm all for him getting all of his material out there, even the stuff I'd consider to be absolute crap.

However, the contents of what makes up his albums is another matter. The album is the historical record. The album is the thing you're supposed to sit down and listen to from beginning to end.

I'm not calling for him to release less music. But being a little more careful with what makes it to each album wouldn't hurt.

great point - i agree completely. I wouldn't mind if he released a series of "outtakes" or fully recorded independent songs, or "children" as he apparently likes to think of them. that doesn't mean he'd have to be compelled to put em all on an album. i would've loved a quality lotusflower one-cd album and have the rest of the tracks released independently on the website.

but it's a minor point - if having more songs to listen to means having them on an album - so be it. it's still better than not having them at all - and it's prince's work afterall - we're just soakin it in

I wholeheartedly agree.

Two tracks that have to be on the CD for me....

I love the fact Prince does x 3 CD's wish he did more of them...as everyone likes "Prince" music in their own way... hence Prince gets so much flack from music reviewers who want him to produce Purple Rain again and again and again...for the masses or anything before it except For You as most of them did not like that CD anyway... lol

Also, I have to say I'm surprised at how popular Saviour seems to be on here. That song would too cheesy for a Bon Jovi album.

I think Saviour is brilliant, he sings with such feeling and the melody is sophisticated and powerful. You put The Human Body on your single disc, that song would not come even close to inclusion for me. Just goes to show how diverse Prince enthusiasts are smile

Here's my imaginary tracklist for a single disc.I removed the title track (a song I don't really care for),so I'm gonna title the album 'The Holy River' instead.

PRINCE-THE HOLY RIVER---

Get Yo Groove On
Right Back Here In My Arms
Courtin Time
In This Bed I Scream
Emale
Sex In The Summer
One Kiss At A Time
The Human Body
Sleep Around
Soul Sanctuary
My Computer
Savior
The Holy River

I removed the four remakes and alot of the hip-hop flavored tracks on disc Three. From this tracklist, the singles should be "Sleep Around","Sex In The Summer","One Kiss At A Time" and the title track.

So many different opinions, all of them with pluses and minuses.

Question: why are you limiting it to 12 songs? I would say you're trying to match Prince's trend of 12-track albums, but why not max out the CD format and get upwards of 16-20 songs on there?
