nothing really. I almost always listen to albums in their entirty. In some weird way, tracks I don't like or I just find really strange often make the tracks I do like that follow them that much better.

I've always felt albums were to be treated as artistic statements that need to be understood as a single piece of work. Even though I understand that many albums (especially modern-day albums) are little more than a collection of tracks.

Having said that, I often DO skip past the non-Prince tracks on Grafitti Bridge. But I'm not sure that counts for the topic of this thread.

In the case of the first two, at least, maybe it's just a case of those tracks being so over-played and imbedded in their memory/psyche that there is really no need to ever actually HEAR them again?

Can't listen to the entire CD. Ponderous and over confident elevator music.
Or am I wrong?

In MY case... I JUST DON'T LIKE "LITTLE RED CORVETTE".
I get really annoyed when people start with the "It's a Classic" crap like it's gonna change my mind.
Yeah, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. I never did. I remember when it was on the radio backinthday- didn't like it then. neutral

"When 2 R in Love" sounds whiny...

Prince has 1000s of songs. We are not all going to like the same things....

that's cool. You don't have to like it. to each his own. I was just bringing up to the other poster the idea that some people skip tracks simply because they have been overplayed. Heck, I played Purple Rain so much in 1984 that I didn't play that album ONCE for more than 20 years. And even THEN I didn't feel like I needed to hear it. It long since stopped having any new revelations for me. I played it purely for nostaglic purposes.

There are a lot of albums that when I listen to them I'll skip past the 'big hit' because I heard it so much 'back in the day' that listening to it now is kind of a waste of time.

It wasn't directed toward U. I just don't like when people act like it's the end of the world because I don't like a "favorite" song. faint

NP. I didn't take it personally. I was just explaining myself.

With Prince there's so much music and so many different sides to him that it is perfectly possible to totally dig the guy and have no connection to even a seminal piece of work like "Little Red Corvette". That really isn't even possible with most artists. Is it possible to love Elton John and hate "Rocket Man"? Love the Eagles and hate "Desperado"? Love Earth, Wind & Fire and hate "Shining Star"? Hard for me to believe that is so because if you don't like those songs you don't understand those artists, IMO. Everything they've done since relates back to what those songs represent.

But with Prince I suppose it actually IS possible to love him and not like something like "Little Red Corvette" or "When Doves Cry" at all. Because there's still an entire world of Prince that exists outside what those songs represent to his musical output. But it probably is a bit hard for those who love those songs to understand that, I suppose. Which is why, to them, it seems like the end of the world if someone says they are a Prince fan but doesn't like those songs.

I would be on this level with those songs eek

But "Let's go Crazy"... I really think I've grown to detest it on nearly every occasion... it must be really bad if I once said in a dream "For the love of God, don't play 'Let's Go Crazy', every live version sounds exactly the same" falloff
The extended version, though, I don't mind quite as much wink

The one I always skip... Animal Kingdom was so bad that I didn't let it onto my purple iPOD lol
Wedding Feast follows in 2nd place, only cuz I heard it more than once, but no purple iPOD access either

Nothing whatsoever 2 do with this thread, because there aren't any officially released Prince songs I haven't heard at least once, but I always skip 1999 now because it's the only song of his they ever seem 2 play on the radio here in the UK and it's just got 2 a point where i'm absolutely sick of hearing the song. I find myself shouting at the radio "For f*cks sake, he did have other hits too ya know".

I Would Die for U
Thunder, Live 4 Love (which are conveniently the first and last song on album)
Colonized Mind (for reasons mentioned in another thread)

There are many others, but they are generally on albums that have a number of songs that I skip, such as Controversy, Emancipation, and Chaos and Disorder.
