I see no indication that the writer even logged on let alone explored the site in any depth. Yeah I dont think Variety was looking to publish an article about a musician's website. The focus of the article is on Prince now working without middle men. Change it one more time..

Bar Little Big Planet the PS3 doesn't really have a lot going for it. Until the next Ico/Shadow of the Colossus of course The 360 online userbase is far higher than the competition at the moment anyway so it's probably that which has swayed him.

Yes he did. It isn't his choice. Always the same question BVH: WHAT IS YOUR REAL, DEEP PROBLEM WITH LIFE? i actually support the bulk of your views on Prince's recent music and strategy, but you are so over doing it that you lose all credibility... Prince was a genius, he is still an interesting artist (especially live) despite a good dose of crap. This is why I still come here from time to time. a million fans?
planet earth sold 300,000 copies according to the article. a number that keeps popping up whenever the latest hype dies down and prince is left with his core audience. so i'd say 300,000 loyal prince album buyers. of whom many won't be able or willing to join a $ 77,- website which has of yet little or nothing to offer that isn't on sale elsewhere or which people don't already have in their homes for at least 10 years. and don't forget the puzzle to enter the site which is now explained on the newspaper snippet but which left many average fans bewildered those first weeks and no doubt made a lot of people say "fuck it i'll wait for the target release". then there's the reports of what is actually up on the site, which is as i've said basically nothing new or exciting. people who were not caught up in the hype of signing up the day the site went live most likely came to the org or other places to read what was on offer (since there was no real info about that from prince's camp anyway) and figured they'd hold on to their money for a while until the site expanded with more material like vault tracks. i know i'm one of the ones who got caught up in the hysteria at the very last minute and joined. i don't really care about the money but if i'd known how little there would be on the site i would not have joined this experience. i'd say 100,000 members is a very big estimate. a more realistic number imo would be 50,000 subscribers at this moment. and still a voice in me says it's probably closer to 30,000. if he already had a million members on the site he would release all of that vault material TODAY. for 50K members he won't release the good stuff. which is the crux of the problem with his websites. he wants us all to join and then if not enough people join he hold on to the good stuff. or releases the "exclusives" again, a year later, to a wider audience. leaving loyal fans who paid for exclusives disgruntled and less prone to sign up next time. if he knew there would be a million people waiting to throw their cc his way for "roadhouse garden" he would release it tomorrow. for a million copies sold a pop he would release every album he had left in his vault and make like 15 million per album. now he stands to make some money but nothing close to what he makes from touring or even performing 3 times on one day. if he could make a 3 mill on just one day why would he sell his most treasured outtakes or a disc like "roadhouse garden" to 30.000 fans for a total of $ 500,000? it's a kind of logic i can understand. i hate it but i understand it. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

OK I paid for the website because I really wanted a decent copy of crimson and clover and of course the rest of mplsound and lotusflower. Not only did it take about 20 mins to work out how to join and log in, it took the same time to work out how to hear the music! The only thing that was quick was the payment system! However once I logged into this slow and comebersome and boring website and worked out how to do the basic navigation, Crimson and Clover wasnt there! I was stupid enough to join up without really thinking about what songs would be available, and why should I as C&C was promoted so much, I only assumed it would be there just like all the other songs are. In addition, since joining a month ago there have been no updates, no new material, no vault material, and its fuckin slow as hell. Ive got to give it to you Prince, you screwed me well and good! I also feel like one of the few dickheads stupid enough to buy the subscription too - most file sharers had the material free within a few hours anyway. My recommendation for anyone thinking of buying is - IT IS A WASTE OF YOUR TIME AND MONEY. Thanks Prince you fucking wanker.

Epic lolz. It seems pretty clear that neither Clay nor Prince knows the first thing about videogames... If we're talking about "old school company", I could show them 20-year-old adventure titles that are easier to navigate that Lotusflow3r.com. Call ME old fashioned, but I prefer websites that are conceived and designed to function as WEBSITES. Pretty revealing statement though, it explains a lot.

Sorry but that is my opinion. I like all of those groups but if I had a choice between going to see them live or Prince I am going to go with Prince. In addtion, they have not really been in anybodies limelight in sometime. I really don't give a crap about what the critics have to say about Prince's comeback anybody who pays any attention to popular music knew he did not go anyplace. It is unfortunate that most music critics don't really know what is going on half of the time or are just tools of the music industry.
