Prince loyalists really can't counter anything with this. He didn't sign a non disclosure agreement lol How sad is this? Didn't pay him (another Prince signature move) & wanted to use the footage for a propaganda film. A musical genius who has a sad imprisoning life for others and himself.

It's amazing that one of the biggest pioneers&individualists/innovators imprisoned himself with a fabricated religion solely for power and mind control of it's followers. It's the kind of thing that makes you wonder how Jehovah brainwashing really does effect the person. It's fascinating to watch the disintegration of logic and critical thinking with the albatross of a watchtower around your neck.

Honestly, it does make me want to study who the leader of the Jehovah movement is in america currently. And I think CSPAN should interview him. The saddest thing? Prince can't take the fact that he got duped and Kevin outchessed him by not signing the nondisclosure agreement. Keep tearing Paisley apart,Princey. You aren't going to find it. It serves Prince right for not paying him, spending a week doing this lame recruitment film.

I mean honestly, it does make for good material for Kevin. But when you realize he was kind of a fan to begin with and totally excited to visit Prince and film for him - you can't deny what he has to say really.

Who in the world is kevin smith?..
whoever he is his mouth is filthy!!!
Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Who is Kevin Smith?

Kevin Patrick Smith (born August 2, 1970) is an American screenwriter and director, as well as a comic book writer, author, and actor. He is also the co-founder, with Scott Mosier, of View Askew Productions and owner of Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash comic and novelty store in Red Bank, New Jersey. He also hosts a weekly podcast with Scott Mosier known as SModcast.

His films are often set in his home state of New Jersey, and while not strictly sequential, they do frequently feature crossover plot elements, character references, and a shared canon in what is known by fans as the "View Askewniverse", named after his production company View Askew Productions. He has produced numerous films and television projects, including Clerks, Dogma, and Zack and Miri Make a Porno.

Smith was born in Red Bank, New Jersey, the son of Grace, a homemaker, and Donald Smith, a postal worker.[1][2]

He has an older sister, Virginia, and an older brother, Donald Smith, Jr. He was raised in an Irish Catholic household[3][4] and attended Henry Hudson Regional High School in Highlands.

After high school he met Jason Mewes who would later become a recurring actor in his films. He then attended The New School for Social Research in New York and the Vancouver Film School, where he met Scott Mosier, his producer for every movie that he has made.

He majored in film, but dropped out halfway through his studies, electing to take a partial tuition reimbursement in order to help finance his first film. Smith is married to Jennifer Schwalbach Smith. He named his daughter Harley Quinn after the character from Batman: The Animated Series.[5]

Although Smith was raised Catholic, he has said on Back To The Well, the Clerks II documentary, that now he only goes to Mass on the day before he starts production of a movie, and the day before it premieres. He never smoked until his debut film, Clerks, in which he used the cigarettes as a prop, but never actually inhaled. In fact, he has said that prior to filming Clerks, he was a staunch non-smoker.[6]

His first film, Clerks, was shot for the sum total of $27,575 in the same convenience store where Smith worked. It went to the Sundance Film Festival in 1994, where it won the Filmmaker's Trophy and was picked up by Miramax before the festival's end. In May 1994, it went to the Cannes International Film Festival where it won both the Prix de la Jeunesse and the International Critics' Week Prize. Released in November 1994 in two cities, the film went on to play in fifty markets, never playing on more than fifty screens at any given time. Despite the limited release, it was a critical and financial success, earning $3.1 million.

Initially, the film received an NC-17 rating from the MPAA, solely for the graphic language. Miramax hired Alan Dershowitz to defend the film, and at an appeals screening, a "jury" consisting of members of the National Association of Theater Owners reversed the MPAA's decision, and the film was given an R rating instead.

Smith's second film didn't fare as well as his first. Mallrats received a critical drubbing and earned merely $2.2 million at the box office, despite playing on more than 500 screens. The film marked Jason Lee's debut as a leading man. While it later found its audience on home video, earning the title "cult classic"[citation needed], Smith has said of the movie "It was a six million dollar casting call for Chasing Amy."

Widely hailed as one of Smith's best films, Chasing Amy marked what Quentin Tarantino called "a quantum leap forward" for Smith. Starring Mallrats alumni Jason Lee, Joey Lauren Adams and Ben Affleck, the $250,000 film earned $12 million at the box office and wound up on a number of critics' year-end best lists, and won two Independent Spirit Awards (screenplay and supporting actor for Lee).

Smith's next film, Dogma, had an all-star cast and found itself mired in controversy. The religious-themed comedy, which starred a post-Good Will Hunting Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, Chris Rock, Salma Hayek, George Carlin, Alan Rickman, Linda Fiorentino, and Smith regulars Jason Lee and Jason Mewes, raised the ire of the Catholic League due largely to a reference about the Virgin Mary having post-Jesus intercourse with her husband, Joseph. Smith received over ten thousand pieces of protest/hate mail (some of which were showcased on the film's official website) and three death threats.

The film debuted at the 1999 Cannes International Film Festival, out of competition. Released on 800 screens in November 1999, the $10 million film earned $30 million.

After the controversy surrounding Dogma, Smith said he wanted to make a movie that couldn't be attacked for its content. Focusing the spotlight on two characters who'd appeared in supporting roles in his previous four films, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back featured an all-star cast, with many familiar faces returning from Smith's first four films. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon appear as themselves filming a mock sequel to Good Will Hunting. The $20 million film earned $30 million at the box office and received mixed reviews from the critics. It was meant to be the film that closed the book on the "Askewniverse"—the Jersey-based, interconnected quintet of movies written and directed by Smith.

Jersey Girl with Ben Affleck, Liv Tyler and George Carlin was meant to mark a new direction in Smith's career. However, the film took a critical beating as it was seen as a post-Gigli "Bennifer" movie as Jennifer Lopez also appeared in this movie. Budgeted at $35 million, it earned only $25 million.

Clerks II marked one more trip into the Askewniverse, Smith resurrected the Dante and Randal characters from his first film and looked in on them ten years later. Roundly criticized before its release, the film went on to win favorable reviews as well as two awards (the Audience Award at the Edinburgh Film Festival and the Orbit Dirtiest Mouth Award at the MTV Movie Awards).[7] It marked Smith's third trip to the Cannes International Film Festival, where Clerks II received an eight minute standing ovation.[8] The $5 million film, starring Jeff Anderson, Brian O'Halloran, Rosario Dawson, Jason Mewes, Jennifer Schwalbach and Smith himself—reprising his role as Silent Bob—earned $25 million.

Zack and Miri Make a Porno was originally announced in March 2006 as Smith's second non-Askewniverse comedy.[9] The film, which began shooting on January 18, 2008 in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, and wrapped on March 15, 2008, stars Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks as the title characters who are in desperate need of money, so decide to make a low-budget pornographic film. The film, which was released on October 31, 2008, ran into many conflicts getting an "R" rating, with Rogen stating:

It's a really filthy movie. I hear they are having some problems getting an R rating from an NC-17 rating, which is never good." He concluded with "They [fight against] sex stuff. Isn't that weird? It's really crazy to me that 'Hostel' is fine, with people gouging their eyes out and shit like that, but you can't show two people having sex — that's too much."[10]

I recently watched the YouTube videos about Kevin Smith's disclosure on his week with Prince.

I was absolutely floored about all of the things he said about Prince. All of the things he picked up about him... the majority of the time I was nearly died laughing falloff

It would have been interesting to see... if Prince didn't store all cool stuff like this into the vault lol

Seriously, though, I got so curious about TRC that I listened to it (completely out of chronological order, I might add... I was on D&P at the time)... I mean REALLY curious.

And for an album that had me boxed cuz it was so outrageously strange... eek

Now that experience was a game changer... hmmm not quite as bad as originally thought. I'd posted what I wrote about the album afterwards, but I don't think anyone will be able to stomach reading that much lol I write too damn much falloff
had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

Kevin has spoken twice about this. Both are hilarious as hell.
The audience members seemed to have had an interest in how Kevin dealt
with what the general public perceives as an insane musician.

What I find so funny about it all is that for some one who claims "CON"tracts
are unessesary (which he professed at that time in his life), he made folks
sign them. lol
Don't start playing that semantic game bullshit with me folks--a rose by any other name is still a rose. Prince was making folks sign gag contracts. lol

this was interesting. Prince is not the only one to get touchy about being quoted. i did some work at skywalker ranch... that place had a confidentiality agreement that made my head spin... and it was due more than a day ahead of wmy arrival.

anyway, the thing that Smith's talk at Kent State showed me was that Prince's fans were brutal in the focus group... at least, Smith struggled with the frank and hostel focus groups. This is not to say that Prince is not a man-diva...

the piece is also an interesting illustration of persona vs. person... how we imbue others (esp. famous folks) with respect/awe/disrespect based on our perception of the person using only the persona to guide us.

for me, its better some folks stay in the fantasy file and out of the harsh reality of my life... i get the impression that maybe Smith wishes that boundary still was in place between him (smith/fan) and prince (persona/star)...

i don't really like most of kevin smith's films after 'clerks.' 'dogma' is okay and 'mallrats' is funny.

but, again, that has nothing to do with what he had to say about prince. you're approaching this topic using classic cultist tactics: distract from the question at hand (is kevin smith's story about prince true? sort of true? not true at all?) by bringing up an unrelated topic (the quality of kevin smith's films) and hammering on about that at the top of your lungs.

have you ever watched youtube clips of scientologists when they are confronted by outsiders?

also reminiscent of trotskyite protesters i have had the misfortune of encountering on the street. i once mistakenly purchased a socialist newspaper (fifty cents) from a guy who looked like a punk rocker. i started flipping through it and told him i had made a mistake. he started shouting in my face.

Nope wrong again ....your going for the easy option...but if you look at the clip he talks about his own film in an i've got an ego too way....yes i've made a turkey like prince has made a turkey....

So it's not hard to say he's acted out his ego and people who have worked with him could say the same thing about how he act's

You don't know Kevin or Prince so how do you defend their actions ...have you had people work under you ....guess what they say about you boss.... lol
