Boom sounds like a Planet Earth leftover....

After listening to the song several times and reading the lyrics, I have come to the conclusion that this is a definite track that was left of PE. It talks about the universe and planets and it has the same sound as the PE title track. Take a listen and look at the lyrics and tell me your opinions.

What do you mean by leftover?
That's a pretty interesting song,
makes me think I'm on Jupiter in a prehistoric type of setting with little fairies running around.

actually, Planet Earth probably is a leftover. that whole album probably is leftovers from the 3121 and LF/MPLS sessions.

actually, it's not that funny since work on Lotus Flow3r around or during the
time of the recordingsessions for "3121". prince said that himself altough i
can't remember exactly which one of the recent interviews it was.

it sounds logical though since planet earth sounds like a mixtape instead of
an album and all the tracks sound pretty much like outtake material anyway.
it's his worst album ever imo. i like something from every album he's ever
done. in fact, i only dislike probably 4 or 5 songs from 1979-2006 but with
planet earth i gained another 8 in one sweep, lol.

"boom", imo, sound healthier, more interesting and less contrived than any
song on planet earth.

Imagine if the album consisted of:

From The Lotus (as an intro with maybe a different name)
Planet Earth
Boom
Guitar
The Morning After
etc. etc.

I hear that. I like Lotus Flower a lot, but I feel like it could use an "epic" and another catchy tune. Supposing that the Planet Earth CD had never been released, I think Guitar and Planet Earth (the song) would fit nicely on LF. Given that Planet Earth features Sonny and Michael, I would guess that it's from the same sessions as much of LF anyway.

i think because of the SUBJECT matter this assumption has been made, but sonically, i don't think Boom sounds like it belongs on PE. I think it flows well with the intro and right into C&C. one "reviewer" who characterized his cover as "lazy" completely missed the "atmospheric" approach he took with it.

I would imagine the songs 'Planet Earth, Colonized Mind, Crimson & Clover, Boom, From the Lotus, Wall of Berlin, Dreamer'. are all from the same recording session ... recorded early 2007

I like the Planet Earth album alot but I do think think it is really a collection of songs he put together from songs he had done, The morning after would fitted on it.

t's like he need an album to promote the 21 nights and so threw it togeteher from songs he'd left off 3121 and songs he had in mind for next project, I'm sure Mr Goodnight is a 3121 left off.

It's a damn fine outtakes collection if that is the case, I can see why people aren't too keen on Emancipation, NPS and Rave but can't understand why people don't enjoy Planet Earth.

That's funny because I think Planet Earth and NPS are quite similar in quality, one great song (The One, Somewhere Here On Earth) surrounded by a mixed bag of disparate songs and quality.

I think E and Rave are worlds better overall.

I think Rave was a good album. It wasn't great, but decent. It had the potential to have more hits, but I think Prince and Clive clashed over how the project should be promoted, so P said F-it.

I think Rave is more listenable than PE. Sure, the title track was just ok, but songs like "Hot Wit U", "Baby Knows," "The Greatest Romance," "I Love You But I Don't Trust You Anymore," "Wherever U Go" and "Prettyman" kill damn-near anything on Planet Earth.

I hate NPS, the only P album, that I actually hate. Maybe two very good songs, the rest is horrible. Its the overall sound and approach I hate. It was trying way too hard. Sounds cheesy and contrived, something I never thought princes music would be. IMHO!

I like quite a few tracks off PE. And I love the title track. I agree it sounds like a bunch of unconnected tracks though.

It's similar, but it isn't exactly like it.
