interesting discovery on ONA LIVE CD's

Did anyone noticed that the members ONA CD's have a web address on the shiny side :

http://www.copycatsmedia.com/

I went to the site and it's a MPLS based company that specializes in duplicating CD's...

Hmmm I would've thought that our Cd's would've been pressed by a national company of some sorts..

what's even more interesting is that that website displays pricings for cd/packaging orders... someone do the math to see how much prince will make out of each live CD sold... aside distribution and (possibly NOT huh huh) advertising smile

I just thought I'd share ..lol

I remember back in the "Slave" days just before Emancipation, Prince saying something to the effect that it only costs a few dollars to produce the discs.

So for example, If your an Australian NPGMC member, and you paid membership (AUS$200), divide that by 4 (CD's) = $50 per CD.

Then for Prince to produce the CD (with booklets, and a complete package), and taking into consideration that it gets cheaper to produce these CD's in bulk, then it's easy to "Do the Math" and realise that P is making a killin' out of this. More props to the brotha, but hey, I can't afford 2 do so, but so long as happy NPGMC members are willing to do (pay) the work, u can see this CONtinuing in Year 3 and beyond..

From what I've read, this is quite a colorful package.

I wouldn't doubt that it costs somewhere around $25 per package with the disks, the inserts, the CD printing, the booklet, the mini-poster, shrink wrap, and the special little box with the cut foam.

Then maybe add $5 for postage.

so maybe $40 total. That would be the minimum cost I would think.

So if he NPGMC was looking to at least make 100% profit which is about normal. Then they've succedded.

Those two or three people that answer e-mails would have to get paid for this year too, I suppose.

Maybe with a bulk price that dropped it to around $15-20.

But I can't see doing a package like that for cheaper.

$12 tops I would think for the 3CD set. It costs peanuts.

Did you find out what it would cost to print let's say 150.000-200.000 sets because those are the numbers we're talking about here.

Did you?

I understand that.

That's what I've found for 5,000 which is the greateset quote some sites have. Anything else, you have to call in.
I'm sure it drops some. But that's what I found.

I bet it drops a lot. Take a look at the prices on CCM for instance. Let's take the "2P folder & tray (4/1)" as an example. 500 will cost you $309.00, a thousand of those won't cost you 2 x $309.00, but only $399.00. Expect something similar for the booklets. There's no way 30% or more of the retail price is to cover the production costs.

No one's bickering. We're just having a discussion on what the production costs of like this could be. There's a religion & politics forum on this board for God's sake. I don't hear you say anything about that. At least this is on topic.
