man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

DJ Foefur Redux Set:

Disc 1

LET'S GO CRAZY (SPECIAL DANCE MIX)
TAKE ME WITH U
THE BEAUTIFUL ONES (full version)
COMPUTER BLUE (7:29min version)
DARLING NIKKI (full version)
WHEN DOVES CRY
I WOULD DIE 4 U
BABY I'M A STAR
PURPLE RAIN

Disc 2

GOD
17 DAYS
EROTIC CITY
I WOULD DIE 4 U (EXTENDED US MIX)
ANOTHER LONELY CHRISTMAS (US MIX)
FATHER'S SONG

I like this. This is the version of the album I listen to. I would also add God (Instrumental) to Disc 2 and close it with a foward playing of the backwards speech at the end of Darling Nikki.

Its criminal that Electric Intercourse has never been release. It is such a perfect relic from that era.

including Computer Blue in all it's 14 minute glory

I like this version too. Unfortunately, I've never yet heard a copy of it that doesn't sound like caca. So I settle for the 7-min version on my personal "remaster".

PR has 80's cheesy reverb and mic leakage everywhere. I would love a remix and remaster.

It IS one of his worst-sounding albums, to be sure. Not certain how far I would go with a re-mix though. Part of the charm of that album is that buried-in-reverb-psuedo-live sound it has. Would be a whole different record if it got cleaned up TOO much.

What's wrong with mic leakage? I like how PR sounds.

Generally it makes recordings sound muddier as it makes working with the individual tracks much more difficult in the mixing process.

I always assumed a lot of this was intentional in order to make the album sound more 'live'.

Nothing. As long as you get a shot of penicillin post-haste.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I agree with the songs being in the order of the movie. I think "Wednesday" should be on there as a special gem. It's partly why I put together the Purple Rain: Severe Storms Extended Set a few years ago. I liked the order of the songs, and I tried to work in the best copies I could find of the extended or original versions of the songs. It was so much fun putting that together.

hmmm I've heard OF "Wednesday," but I've never actually heard the song...it's the one Jill was supposed to sing in the movie, right?

I had a blast putting my compilation together as well! Two things irked me, though: 1) The tracks I used were culled from so many different sources that the sound quality track-to-track was ridiculously uneven--loud to soft, muffled to tinny, etc. Makes for a REALLY distracting listening experience. rolleyes Though I guess with bootlegs from 25 years ago, they're going to sound like that no matter how much cleaning and tweaking you do with audio software (which I personally know next to NOTHING about; all I've done was some minor splicing and reversing on Audacity for Computer Blue/Nikki).

2) The best version of "Father's Song" I could find was the movie rip, which has the light-switch and door sounds on top of it. (I know I'm being nitpicky to be bugged by such a minor thing, but hey...shrug) I'm really hoping that a talented pianist who's a Prince fan will record a studio version of this song {mimicking P's playing style) so that compilation-makers can have a clean version to put on their sets. "Father's Song" is just so beautiful and haunting; I often put it on repeat when I listen to my set. It closes Disc 1 perfectly, setting up "Computer Blue" to lead off Disc 2, which is the perfect place for that track, IMO.

I have ever seen any actual "evidence"that a Jill jones version or a developed Prince studio version of "Wednesday" was ever recorded. In the script to Purple Rain several songs which were not released as part of the project are mentioned(G-spot,Electric intercourse), but no "Wednesday."
There is a reference to Jill playing a song on the piano as Prince enters an empty First Avenue, but it is unclear if this scene was ever shot.
If anyone has any better information about Wednesday please post cool
