Yeah, but Prince is still here and some of those so-called rappers are GONE.

prince was NEVER gangster rap in fact he was doing the opposite of what westside connection were doing

prince likes certain hip hop and he has incorporated in2 his music if he never felt that he had 2 stay "relevant" then the black album becomes mute cause that was a answer 2 all those that said he wasn't relevant anymore (1987)
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I would think the closest Prince ever came to doing a "gangsta rap" type song would be "18 & Over". It sounds a lot like a Dr. Dre/Snoop Dog production from early on in Snoop's career.

Well if that's the rule of thumb, "Jughead" is up there too. smile

I meant though, musically, "18 & Over" has that west coast/Dr. Dre vibe to it.

Lyrically...that's another show, and "Face Down" is probably closer to the "Ima fuck you up" flow.

HAHAHAHA Funny side note about "Face Down". Steve Parke was recently in the chat room during a live studio stream of The Family, while they worked on their new album. (Alan Leeds was in the chat room too. Jellybean, Paul and Eric were live in the cam, answering questions in between takes). I joked at one point about Steve's jeep being sampled on "Face Down" (per the liner notes). He said, "I NEVER had a jeep in my life, and Prince never sampled my car horn." I guess it was just to add to the whimsy of the album or something, but it was a total lie that Prince sampled Steve's car horn.

Nah, he was trying to do an MC Hammer kind of thing with Tony M. Remember, he refused to sell his melodies to gangsta rappers.
All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!

Susannah posted on Tuesday that they will be in the studio Wed or Thurs working on stuff; however there are no plans on streaming that session. They are diligent with working on it. It's hard because Susannah lives in LA, Paul lives in MPLS, and Paul just spent a long weekend in Seattle playing for Oleta Adams a few times. (He produced and coproduced 4 songs total on the album, and played all over it.)
