I've only heard the first two discs, but I really like the following songs:

Do Me, Baby - Sister Sonny (cool indie rock version)

Girls & Boys - Helldorado

The Holy River - Bellman (a very haunting, beautiful version if you're into bands like Stars or Bon Iver)

Crazy You - Thom Hell

Controversy - Surferrosa (has a funky Ting Tings kinda vibe)

I Wanna Be Your Lover - Kenneth Ishak

Damn U - Suzanne Sumbundu (awesome contemporary R&B-type version, I love the synths)

yeah I have this and I think it was great, I liked most of the cover songs,

It was an amazing tribute from the norwegian music scene, I haven't listened for a long while though,

I still prefer to listen to Prince's original versions, wink

edit: I think there was a site where you could hear samples of the songs?

i have it. i can't give you an encyclopedic rundown on each track and how many stars i'd give each one, but i can tell you that (to me) it was well worth the money. some of the songs are duds, but with 5 CDs, you have to expect a mixed bag. some of the renditions are bizarre, some are imaginative, some are really sharp, and some will grow on you. i think everyone will get something different from listening to it...

the packaging and art design are really nice too. i felt that overall it was a really nicely done, well thought out project. and a nice collectible!

If you like Prince covers, this is the mother-load. I like it a lot. The cowboy take on Sign ´O´ The Times by Joacim Lund is off the hook.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

If you just want to download it (legally) and not buy the physical CDs, Play.com have it in mp3 for £11.95.

BUT they say you need a UK credit card & address.

I suggest you to buy the CDs, because the artwork is cool:

it's a purple box 5cd set with a very nice golden booklet, incl. lot's of pics of every artist/ band.

I'm still deciding if Jarle Bernhoft's cover of The One beats the original. I think it's the best Prince cover I've ever listened to.

I dont own the 5cd-set myself, but i have listened to quite a lot of the songs on it.

Especially some of the female artists do an amazing job on some of those songs:

Marte Wulff does a charming version of the Morning Papers, I really dig Anne Marie Perdals take on Paisley Park (very dreamlike, great crystalline voice) and Susanna and the magical orchestra make something very minimalistic of Condition of Heart.

Anyone find it odd that so many artists were able to get ok's to cover his songs?
I was under the impression he had to give his ok and is pretty picky about who re-records his music. shrug

There was a big explosion at the time of the release, it was reported that Prince got the set cancelled. The producer was online telling the whole tale, perhaps someone else could summarize, can't remember the specifics..

i agree, most of the songs on the set i like best are the ones sung by
women. perhaps because in that case you don't compare voices as much
as you would do with another man singing a prince song. somehow these
covers work very well.

Wow, just listened to most of the samples. They're pretty good IMO. The disc that came out a few years ago with Ice T and Gary Numan didn't really impress me.
