Its Time for Prince to do a country album!

Songs like so Blue could be considered country flavored. I want prince to show country ppl how to make it right!
We all want a big hit again because
we want to relive the Hysteria & Pandemonium we experienced
when Purple Rain was Hot. Actually, he doesn't care if it happens again or not.

I can't imagine that Prince would do a country album. But, if he does.....oh my.....I dunno.

I think that even if he tried to make a country album it would end up being so FUNKY that no one would consider it "country"

the only GOOD country music is traditional, classic country music. and i don't think prince knows or cares about that kind of music, which is fine, but it also makes me really not want him to entertain the idea of "going after that keith urban money". lol

According to a little bird who knows, there was a "Country" album completed & submitted to WB in early 1996, as part of the ploy to force his release from their contracts. They balked & accepted C&D & the later "The Vault" project in turn, ending his release obligations with the company. Apparently the publishing agreements (and perhaps some behind the scenes financial settlements) were still in place until the close of the century, at which point he took back the name "Prince".

now THAT i can be down with. biggrin

though i don't know if it would be rick rubin i would choose to bring prince back from the artistic dead. i think it would have to be someone nobody would ever suspect as the perfect collaborator, just as rick rubin was the most unlikely (but perfect) option for johnny cash.

well if it was prince music in the 90's.. it's best that it's kept in a deep dark hole somewhere..

can't imagine how bunk it could be

I'm not too into Country, with the exception of a few songs, but I would love to see Prince do a Country album. It would be shocking and different. He's done so many other genres of music, why not tackle this one? No one is expecting George Strait but something unique from the dude.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

i just can't hear it. i can hear him doing like a shania twain kind of thing, i guess because he did that cover back in the RAVE days, but i don't think of that as real country music. i'm talking, like, steel guitars and harmonikay and rootsy folksy sounding stuff. prince just doesn't have the constitution for that kind of music, i don't think. it would be kind of like if marilyn manson did an album of all sade covers. ok, maybe that was a bad example, but still. it would just be all kinds of wrong. disbelief

Why do you say that? I don't own too much country music but I do think it is definitely quality music with quality musicians and I think it's a very respectable genre of music. From what I know, country music almost always involves live music and live instruments as well as quality songwriting.
Nothing personal, I just find your comment pretty ignorant.

listen to johnny cash's "god/love/murder" compilation and tell me that's low. no way. he may not be representative of all country music, but i think he was an example of what country (or as he called his music, "mountain music") could be at its best. and its best could be pretty great.

The comment was not ignorant. This is all about personal tastes. I too find country to be the worst form of music around. That doesn't make us ignorant, it makes us people who really do not like country. If you can state that one is ignorant for claiming country to be bad, you can state that one is ignorant for claiming it is good. A better example of an ignorant statement would be saying that country music doesn't sell. That is a verifiable (objective) statement that can be refuted. You can't refute a subjective statement.

I wouldnt be surprised if Prince has written a couple of country songs just for the hell of it. I remember his line from The Muppet Show that was country sounding.

If you do not like country music, that is totally fine, nothing wrong with that...

I am simply commenting about the comment that it is "the lowest form of music."

WTF is that? There are other forms of music that do not even involve instruments and singing, etc. If you don't dig country music, that's cool, but how can it be called "the lowest form of music on earth"...THAT is what I'm talking about.

Fair enough. I guess that you and I are reading the comment differently. I was seeing it as an overall ranking of music (based on opinion). If you were to ask me what my least favorite form of music is, I would say county. I guess that means that I find country to be the "lowest form of music," but I would probably use more diplomatic language.

That title belongs to Rap & Hip-Hop, thank you lol

But either way, I can't imagine Prince doing a country album.
And I really don't think he should. One way or another, his funk/R&B edge is going to come out, so it won't be purely country. razz

I'd say "I'll show u mine if u show me yours"... but I don't know many country singers that I could offer up for my defense lol

at least Country gets their own station... rap & hip-hop still filter their way into my favorite stations hmph! if they didn't attempt to mingle with the good stuff, I might show a little more understanding shrug
But they were the reason I couldn't trust mainstream radio for 3-4 years
