Well, Prince should have his own bootleg tracker site, like other artists do, like Coldplay, Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks, Genesis/Peter Gabriel, David Bowie, Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, REM, INXS, U2, etc., etc., etc.!!!!

The court found the defendants guilty of helping users commit copyright violations "by providing a Web site with ... sophisticated search functions, simple download and storage capabilities, and through the tracker linked to the Web site."
By that reasoning producers of video and cassette recorders in the 80's and these days producers of computers and cd recorders, should have been convicted too. After all, they also provide the tools for people to infringe on copyrights. In the end it's not the hosting site or the producers of the site, computer or recorder that infringe on copyrights, but the users.

Granted, this ruling primarily affects what happens in Sweden, but more interestingly, it surmises that Google is now the leading facilitator of internet piracy. What ultimately sad is that the law is years behind the pace of technology, and even victories like this in court may be rendered useless because hackers and other people will find ways to get around copyright restrictions. All this ultimately does is expose how ludicrous the business model is for Hollywood and the record companies, This is a case of the buggy whip manufacturers paying off the courts to protect their business in a futile attempt to stop people from driving cars.

Maybe its because they're relatively small fry (compared to the likes of google and youtube)? I'm not stopping. I haven't even taken my coat off

Because Pirate bay uses file sharing technology. but they host no materials, so none of the files being shared is actually stored on their servers... they're only provide technology that allows users to share files... at least how I understand it... seems like youtube would be a more legitimate target since people actually store copyrighted materials on the site... [Edited 4/17/09 7:56am] Exactly because file sharing is so "innocent", legally speaking, they want it shut down. They are really happy with this ruling. As for youtube and google, they realise they shouldn't go after them to close them down, but only to share in their profits. Both google and youtube are profitable. More reason to keep the pressure on them to keep on paying, but not seek a ruling.
