The "Alladin" DVD is far superior to "Rave', but the production is almost amatuerish. From the poor image quality to the occasional jerky sound and video, it gives one the impression that it was shot on a shoestring budget.

Thank God. Thought it was just me. Aladdin could easily be a bootleg the quality is so poor.

Rave is good to listen to and worth putting on for friends to laugh at (that blue jumpsuit!).

IT's always going to be a toss up with people. Alladin isn't the whole concert (No clue why), and Rave has some editing problems (with the sudden slow motion-caught-in-the-moment shots. There are good and bad moments in each. Get both, be your own judge.

Okay, call me crazy, but I totally prefer the Rave dvd, I think the Rave dvd is great.....Yeah the look of it is kinda cheesy but in a wierd way I dig the way it looks visually...And I feel that the music/performances absolutely kick ass on the RAVE dvd. I'm kinda surprised that mostly everyone seems to favor the Alladin dvd which I also dig but I found it a bit on the boring side.

They're very different. Rave has hits, but Vegas has the energy of a live show. Rave only picks up the pace towards the end. Also the camera stuff gives me seizures in Rave.

I prefer Vegas, but the song list is not that impressive.

They're both crap.

What does Prince have against his own performances?

This is why non-fans laugh at Pro-Prince folk, he so unrepresents himself on DVD. He has nothing to hide, he's brilliant live, i don't know why he doesn't want to impress folk. i just don't get it at all! neutral

Rave. The 5.1 sound is mixed well, the set is varied, Larry's bass redeems the preachiness of Purple Rain and it was professionally filmed and edited. Some don't like the A.D.D./slap-chop editing, but I don't think that it hinders the product.

Aladdin is fine to listen to, but I can't watch it without feeling I purchased a second rate bootleg.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Rave as pretty damn close though. He didn't curse in the Rave DVD, and Graham was obviously very present.

Didn't Prince once say that aside from a few random live recordings, "Purple Rain", "Baby I'm A Star", "I Would die 4 U", "It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night" he had never released a live album (to that point), because it was such a final statement on how a song would sound? Oddly, an album version suffers that fate especially if it's never played live.

He'd make a killing if he put the time, effort and money into producing good DVDs of his concerts. Hook up with Showtime or HBO and do it. They'll film it, get the sound right, the look right, and it'd sell buttloads. So many artists have done that, and done well with a deal like that. That PPV thing was ridiculous. It could have been even bigger with a real television deal. It wasn't even in reruns in the following years.

Prince is stupid.

You're right ernest. He has the money to hire the right company to make a professional job of a show but so far he hasn't. Sound quality of recent live dvds I've bought is so good, as is the video quality (HD cameras have existed for a while now). But will he? Probably not.

I don't get the people who say 'Alladin' looks like it has been shot with a cellphone-camera.

ÍMO he is purposely going for a not so 'glossy' look on that DVD, to make it more like you are in the audience yourself.
When you pay attention to how shots are taken and edited, you can see there were multiple cameras used, and that the editting is on a professional level.

It shows it was an 'artistic' decision of him (or the director?) to make it appear grainy and low-key.

Alan, I agree. He's talked about making the lion's share of sales.... he'd make a freakin' killing with a little effort.

It's cheap game show video instead of film, or even using a film filter to give it a glossier look. The stage and the lighting is a bit too simplistic and spartan. Plus the audience looks bored part of the time.

Never saw Love41another but The Beautiful Experience was great.
It was very exciting at the time to have all this new material thrown in your face, cheesy but very cool. I still love the version of Come and its video.
Seeing Days of Wild for the first time was fantastic.
