Sign 'O The Times DVD

Can I get y'all's opinion on The Sign 'O The Times DVD? I ain't never seen it. I am not a major collector of Princely stuff but I would like to buff up my collection a bit with some stuff that I probably should already have.
Look at me, Baby! What can I say? Ain't no other fish in the sea!

Asking that question here is like going to Jesus and asking if the bible is worth reading lol.

Are you sure the shitty one (from somewhere in South America I think?) is legit?

I know the Canadian release is.

And to answer the OP's question: Yes, you need it.

Except that Prince really exists and SIGN O THE TIMES was based on something that happened. Apart from that--good analogy.

Got the DVD free with the Sunday Guardian a couple of years ago. Crystal clear picture and sound but no chapters/ scene access so I have to fast forward through the movie to access favourite songs.

If you can get a copy on ebay I highly recommend it. I believe that the official canadian version of the DVD is excellent quality.

There are so many highlights on the DVD with the performance of Sign of the time, I could never take the place of you're man, Beautiful night (awesome) and The Cross (mindblowing) my personal favourites.biggrin

Only get the version sold on Amazon.ca. Other versions out there are awful. The Canadian release has 5.1 Surround, Widescreen and crystal clear video and sound. Link to Canadian SOTT release: http://www.amazon.ca/Prin...315&sr=8-1

I love this "movie"! I saw it my senior year in high school at the Hyde Park Theater in Chicago and I haven't stopped watching it since! My fav part is when he's signing "Forever in my Life". He goes into Prince mode and while everyone is doing their thing, he says to Sheila E, Kat, etc...Back of them mic's chillin'...and the rest is history. Just look at their faces, because they have no idea what's going on or what's going to happen next! biggrin

I got the Region 0 Portuguese version and it looks good. The menus are in Portuguese but are straightforward enough to not give you trouble.

I always wished that 'Starfish and Coffee' and 'Strange Relationship' were on it though.

Also, the singing and sounds from the concertgoers were not the concert people that you saw in the film. It was actually about 100 extras at Warner
Bros Studio in Hollywood that made the sounds. Prince wanted the concertgoers
to have more of an interaction with him. For example, When Prince would finish a song and say "thank you"...the crowd would say "no thank you!"
The film was already completed, we watched the film on a large screen in
black and white. Cat had a portable tape player, that played Prince's voice
instructing us what to do. He was at the studio, but never came out.
Prince originally wanted the concertgoers to sing every song from the movie.
Cat passed out lyrics to all of us. We learned and sang every song!
The only song that appeared on the film was "Forever in my life".
It took us 3 days to complete. That was the greatest Prince experience in my life!!!!! cool

So what are the other must-have officially released DVDs or videos that would round out a Prince collection. I'm not really into the bootlegged stuff, and I hate inferior sound or video quality. Isn't there a good and bad version of Prince Live At The Alladin Los Vegas?

That's the Brazilian version that was sold at Best Buy (I have it too). It has the wrong artwork on the cover, etc. Do yourself a huge solid and get the Canadian DVD... you won't be sorry.

WOW! That is a cool story, and first-hand no-less. I had never heard this. The boombox thing is funny - soooo Prince. Thanks for sharing. I would have loved to have been there too.

There is only one version of Live At The Alladin. If you hate inferior sound or video quality... do not waste your money.

Officially released DVDs:

Prince - Live at the Aladdin Las Vegas - Concert(s) Film
Rave Un2 the Year 2000 - Concert Film
Sign O' The Times - Concert Film
Prince - The Hits Collection - Promo Videos
Prince - Diamonds and Pearls - Promo Videos
Purple Rain, Motion Picture - NOS still being sold
Purple Rain, Motion Picture - Re-Mastered (Two-Disc Special Edition) - Also available on Blu-ray and OOP HD-DVD
Under the Cherry Moon, Motion Picture
Graffiti Bridge, Motion Picture

There are officially released VHS and Laserdiscs that unfortunately, have yet to make it to DVD.

To answer the original posters question, if you are a casual fan wanting to buff up your collection, this is a very good acquistion.
If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.
