On the British chart mid week Album Sales it shows Lotus Flow3er to have sold only 266 in its 1st 3 days.... if this is just mail order .. it doesn't matter it looks really bad in the music industry.

I think the whole Lotus Flow3er release has been a mess.

Well, considering that the album hasn't actually been released in the UK
yet, I think it's doing surprisingly well! As all the sales so far are from import
copies being bought mail-order online from HMV and Play etc.

I (and many others from the UK) 'bought' the album by joining the fan club. So these figures regarding HMV's extortionate import sales DO NOT MEAN JACK SHIT.

RUBBISH ....WHERE'S THE LINK TO THE WEBSITE....HMV IS THE ONLY LARGE MUSIC SHOP IN THE UK AND YOU HAVE TO SELL MORE THAN 266 CD'S TO GET TO NUMBER 7 ON THE UK IMPORT LIST.....

RUBBISH.....GET THE PROOF....GET THE WEBSITE LINK / SOURCE
biggrin

It's not RUBBISH !! I get these charts because i work within the business. It isn't on any website. That is how much he had sold by wednesday.

My original point was.... The music industry will see Prince has not got the figures for another major release after this album. Prince will be back knocking on major labels doors again and i can tell you no-one will be looking to sign him.

Why would they be looking at import sales? Surely domestic release figures would be of more interest. Since the album hasn't been released domestically, I doubt it matters tuppence.

I dare anyone 2 compare Princes last CD sales over the past 5 years or thereabouts, to that of a band like Coldplay, whose last CD, Viva La Vida sold virtually 10 million copies worldwide all because of being with a Record Company and pulling out all stops in promotion in all avenues of the media and having FREE advance downloads of all the tracks on their FREE official site and touring their asses off in also promoting it(their VLV Tour is still going strong around the world well up to the end of this year, with many return visits back 2 certain places by popular demand).

I doubt very much whether Prince has got many members on his site due 2 the EXTORTIONATE membership fee and the worldwide recession we are all in right now!! I for one wont b joining, cos I have other more important things 2 spend my money on now(hmmmmm, lets see, shall I pay for my husbands medications or shall I join some pathetic online club that wont b of any benefit 2 me ????? lol lol lol ). I know quite a few other Prince fans who wont b joining!! Again, a band like Coldplay comes up trumps in that they recognize that their fans are not multi-millionaires, like Prince seems 2 think that we all are(just like all the Hollywood A-List freinds he seems 2 have now!!!), so they have refused 2 charge a membership fee for their offical site!!!!

Coldplays hearts and heads are in this real world, unlike Princes!!!!! lol lol lol

Record company policy works for Coldplay but there are many bands with recording contracts that are beside Prince in the chart a this moment.
Some bands make it and some don't, and it is just as much about luck as it is about talent, the record company can only force a band on the naive.
And they will only be caught out once

i'd imagine most people would simply download it from his official website two weeks before import copies arrived in the country?

I agree most people would have downloaded it .... but you really think people would pay $77 to download it?

I'm all for alternative ways to release albums …. But paying $77 to get into a site to download an album ? you have got to be kidding me.

266 albums sold ... thats pretty funny. I wonder if we'll get the "i'm number one at the bank" crap again.

Number 2 in the US is pretty darn good for your 30something album release and as far as i can see it hasn't been released in the UK yet so what mess are you refering to ?

I reckon I could make better more funky music than Prince does now and I am not even a musician!!!! lol lol

Oh yeah, I forgot!!! Princes first online club did SO WELL when it was $100, that the Better Business Bureau had 2 investigate its business practises, which is why it had 2 b reduced 2 an indefinate fee of $25!!!!! lol lol lol lol lol lol

it was npgmc v2 that had the $25 fee, but didn't include any cds or monthly downloads. very different to reducing the fee from $100 to $25 as what you got for your money was entirely different, just as it is for your $77. it's only £1 per week. isn't your favourite musician worth that? if not, why would you come in a site like this?

There is no mess. There are no truly reflective sales because 'Lotusflower' has not even been released in the United Kingdom. In fact, it has now been banned from sale. HMV are not even selling it.

Considering it is an expensive import that was available in UK stores for only a few days with no advertising it is a miracle it sold 266 copies.

You think the record industry will not be aware that Prince sold the album only in Target and that these 266 copies were imported then banned?

Moreover, do you think the record industry will not be aware that Prince reached number 2 on the US Billboard chart by selling his set through Target only?

That on a week where Prince sold about 180,000 copies, so-called popular rappers such as Flo Rida and others sold between 10,000 - 50,000 only? Given these results, I'd venture that plenty of record companies will be willing to work with Prince.

Again, it must be emphasised that 'Lotusflower' has not been released in the UK. Therefore your point about sales figures is utterly moot.

I am speaking as someone who works for a record company... and US sales for some artists do not reflect sales in the UK. So to round off ... i know what i'm talking about as i was involved in the Planet Earth campaign and Prince has alienated alot of music retailers and music industry big wigs..

They'll still be around, and they'll still be making that same song.

Damn, all of their songs sound alike.

The thing is I never used 2 say that about Prince!!! I used 2 think that every one of his songs were totally unique and different from each other, but now 2 me, over the past 10 years, every CD he brings out all sound the same and I just cant tell one CD from another!! PE sounds like 3121 sounds like Musicology sounds like TRC sounds like Rave, etc.!! And I am convinced its all just one CD with different covers on!!!! lol lol lol lol lol

oh dear... credibility lost much? what a joke.

TRC sounds like Rave... LMAO!

COMEDY QUOTE OF THE DAY.
