Kevin Smith talks as if anyone can just "step into his world" without his control of how he is viewed behind the scenes..

Can I walk onto his set as a fan, and film situations: The way he acts behind the scenes? Can I depict the way he treats people without him seeing my documentary, and controling it?

Prince probably has his problems, but I don't know of any ex-employee actually taking him to court.

It's kind of a hypocritical viewpoint and Smith has been harping on this for years.

Do what Prince is not doing for you. Let fans come to the set of your next film, and record anything they see going on. It won't ever happen. If Smith allows it, he will probably: control the outcome, put his spin on it, act for the camera, and "sugar-coat" everything. He probably would not do much different that Prince.

In my opinion Smith seems more angry Prince just treated Smith like a fan and an employee/contract worker, instead of "Big Kevin Smith Director and Peer-friend in Entertainment".

Work is Work. You better not say many things negative about your boss--even if he is wrong at times, or you will be fired! This is reality! Prince is a business man, not "Willy Wonka"! So, is Smith.

Well....looks like some have tried to counter with silly comments. If Kevin were not a fan (and I am sure he still is) this may be hard to believe. It makes for good material - yes - but is still pretty disturbing. Denial is the first sign that you have a problem. Another interesting thing is when he said "Jungle Love was written by God" was he talking about Prince? Kinda ironic.

Thanks for posting the link to the other clips. I was gonna do that but that has been done a lot here on the org. I also notice not many people are responding because they know Kevin is right. Oh, and there is a pretty funny clip on Smith's myspace page but he does not talk about prince http://www.myspace.com/th...kevinsmith but interesting that he lists Prince under his music preferences right after Run DMC and Public Enemy

It took me a very long time to see the Kevin Smith pieces but when I did, I laughed my ass off. Look, anyone who's been a Prince fan for a while knows the dude is crazy so for that, I wasn't offended. It didn't make me look at Prince any more or less than before, Prince is Prince. When it's said and done, it was KS's experience. A wild and weird one but his and his alone.

I think someone that Kevin talked on while he was trying to get in touch with Prince (one of his "middle-men")... that person said something like "Prince hasn't come down from Prince world in a long time"... or something about him being in his world and not coming down to reality.

That short exchange alone brought back to the forefront of my mind just how deep (and in some ways, insane) Prince is but gotta love him for his complexity

I love the mix of reactions to this. I've been a Prince fan for over 20 years, and a casual Kevin Smith fan for a few years - got to say I hear Kevin Smith more on this one.
It just seems like an completely honest account of someone relatively grounded having a bizarre experience in a world where ego runs an absolute riot, without question. Sometimes I like that in Prince, other times I think he can act like a complete moron. Embarassingly so. But he wrote Sign O The Times. So who cares, really?
