Wow. Just wow.

I so wanted it to be good....

but it was awful, terribly tacky and completely pointless. Embarrassing really.

Too bad.

This vid is typical of the cheapness now used for videos these days. If you want a comparably bad video that I'm referring to, look at the recent vids from one of my other favorite artists, Nas.

And I hope I missed something in this thread, because I saw no love for the Diamonds and Pearls video. Prince bouncing off the couch into a split trumps the entire Chocolate Box video.

Well I for one like the song very much and was VERY disappointed... naa... change that...

I was pissed the fuck off at that jacked up stupid ass video!!!!

I mean come on... the video looked cool as all hell for the first 30 seconds... which was the preview we got to see and I was all hyped up for some king fu matrix hyper kinetic video after first hearing the full version of Chocolate Box. Then BLAM!!! We get Q-Tip, who couldn't look more dis-interested jumping from roof top to roof top after some wanna be 'Trinity' bimbo.

Did I mention I was pissed the fuck off at how bad the video actually was...?

...It looked good ..as a picture... but once it starts moving....its a steady down hill tumble to crap.

Good Post!!! Well Said.

OK.
I'm having "computer issues" so it took me over half an hour to load the video.

It was not worth the wait.

While I agree that it's leaps & bounds (no pun intended) better than the crappy videos that he's been putting out as of late...it did seem pointless and somewhat amateurish. Even outdated.

There's a janet Jackson video (can't remember which) where she jumps from planet to planet. It reminds me of that one in the sense of having cool special effects with no real substance.

I was waiting for a cool fight scene.

The technicolor "explosion" after the 2 characters "chest-bump" was kinda cool...but ultimately pointless. (BTW - those neon disco-jellyfish remind me of Spongebob Squarepants' jellies).

And what's up with Q-tip? Someone get him a Red Bull.

In the promo for "Chocolate Box," Prince is an all-seeing Orwellian figure, whose gaze looms over a shadowy cityscape as projected onto the sides of skyscrapers and a psychedelic airship. Rapper Q-Tip - who collaborated with Prince on the track - stars as a man in pursuit of a beautiful and mysterious woman. Their athletic hunter-hunted game of parcour takes them across rooftops and buildings. When they finally meet, the video goes from a black and white palette accented by occasional flashes of color, and crescendos into a technicolor explosion of surreal graphical elements. Neon jellyfish bob in mid-air, a giant fuchsia sphere pulsates with otherworldly energy (and Prince's omnipotent visage), and lightning zigzags across the sky. The video closes with "To be continued."

This short write-up is better than the actual video.
It's probably much better in Hi-Def on the big screen.
All the work put into it is lost with a hard-to-find pc download.
Another wasted opportunity.
Yay!

Prost!

I have to agree with the general sentiment here... yes, the video looks great, but it doesn't fit the song and nothing actually happens. It's just 4mins of Q-Tip chasing a girl with Prince following along on a blimp. Then they kind of fight and next thing you know it's "to be continued"... wtf?

i wonder what song is the "2 b continued" video...

WoW! We all love P (I think) but we can be so DIVERSE in our opinions! It actually hurts my feelings to see people writing that the song itself is shit. I love this song SO MAJOR BIG TIME much. The last time I even remotely felt compelled to repeat and repeat a Prince track was "Face Down." Love this song even more. Maybe it's nostalgia finally kicking in... I'm a hardcore fanatic in the timeline of "Dirty Mind" up to Batman - STRUGGLING to make it that far - with a few blips after that. The MPLSound concept is cool by me, although this is hardly the first time the trusty Linn drum was pulled out to try and renew interest in the man, and actually I feel like this is poor Prince's version of George Michael putting on a leather jacket and growing stubble one last time to try and score an American hit (he did that a few years back, for anyone who cares) (and it didn't work sad ) Anyhow, something about a few of the MPLSound tracks really hit home with me, and Choc Box is the leader of the pack!

Back to the subject at hand - poor Q-Tip. He didn't get a millisecond of face time rapping in the video when his solo was on, and to make matters worse all vocal presentation was focused on Prince's background "oohs" and "ahhs" during that part; the icing on the cake - Prince even lipsyncs to Q's voice at least once, on the intro "where the drums." Surprised nobody mentioned this. WHO was the director of the video?? That to me was like seeing the modern version of classic Prince saddling up next to Dez or Andre on stage to share a line or 2 of a song, only to yank the microphone up close to his mouth. Memories!

And I guess there was some hip dysfunction or whatever, but damn I really really wanted to see Prince from the neck down shaking it up a little. This song is so jumpin' (sorry H8Rs) how can you not??? In the end I'm still beside myself with feelings of love and 'private joy' for a CURRENT Prince track. I'm a DJ and a VJ in Minneapolis and I'm pushing this song for all it's worth. I hope it's a hit for him, but more than likely.....

Question: Is it assumed that Prince wrote Q-tips rap. Or is it a Q-tip original? Any takers? I'm just wondering, cuz I like the rap and I wanted to give credit where credit is due. cool

I don't like the video.

Me neither. It's not very interesting. bored eye like the "Wit da drums!" intro, but after that, it's pretty whack. Just Q-Tip running after a woman & Prince on a screen. eye prefer the "Crimson & Clover" video. And what kind of line is "So what's the deal, R U gay or poppin' pills?" falloff However, eye do like the ending, with the purple Lotus Flow3r design and the disco jellyfish in the background. cool

Just so happens, maybe I'm gay AND popping pills. And also smoking some weeds. And I still won't go near your chocolatey box, Prince. Milk milk lemonade, round the corner fudge is made.
