Personally, I have never been a "fam" in the truest sense of the word. How can you go your whole life without ever hearing a Prince bootleg (or buying one, there I said it. LOL) I know what Prince said when he described that term, and yes it does make sense and is even cutesy, but I also gotta wonder if he didn't have some kind of "only the true fams" angle behind this, if that makes sense. He was really doggy paddling at the time, so it may have come partly out of a need to identify who was in his corner, tho.

Sure Sabotage and Thunderball made money on things but ultimately, fans trade bootlegs which saturates the market. And people do it because they love the artist and want to hear the notes he chose not to release.

Prince once said he "understands the fan's need" for these things and it was partly why he released Crystal Ball. Yet why did it end there? He started on that whole FAM thing after that, negating any other possibility that he'd release older stuff to "clean up the black market a bit" (as he stated on Larry King). The whole idea of the Crystal Ball II set, although with plenty of input from fans at the Celebration that year, was great but is now on the list of more Prince aborted projects.

THAT is why being a FAM is ridiculous. It gets you nowhere. Because even when Prince pretends to pull you under his protective and caring wing, he still pushes your ass outta the nest. I love him, but his broken promises and business practices are GREATLY lacking.

Prince will NEVER stop fans from running websites. Some are bigger than others, or more popular, but in the end, Mr. Equality and Freedom needs to remember that there's room for everyone on the internet. Just because he THINKS it hurts his business or image if someone puts his picture or on the web, yet he forgets it's those same fans that put him in the cushy position he now enjoys. There's room for EVERYONE on the web, including HQ, Princefams, and the Org, Dawnation, etc etc.

However, I can also understand Aaron's frustration with the midget. Prince wins little battles, but his fans will ultimately win the war. It's just too bad there's fighting at all, and he hates his fans so much.
