5 Prince songs with the wow factor

Name 5 Prince songs which when you first heard you were headbang and confirmed why you love Prince so much.

My five:

1. Electric Chair:- My first Prince Album was Batman. When I heard 'The Future' I was happy, but when 'Electric Chair' came on it was like a bomb. Those driving guitars and bass were so cool at the time. If I ever met Prince i would just say 'you had me at Electric Chair'.

2. 17 Days:- I bought the cassette single of 'When Doves Cry' even though I had the Purple Rain album just for the curiosity of hearing this track. After hearing the first 20 seconds or so i was headbang like crazy. I must have listened to that song over and over about 30 times that day.

3. Erotic City:- After my revelation that Princes B-Sides are mostly amazing after hearing 17 days, i got hold of the extended version of Erotic City. Never have I heard such a funky bassline. Another song I've probably played to death.

4.Crystal Ball:- This is probably in my top 5 all time Prince songs. It's so original, something only Prince can do. It also shows what a complete genius Prince is. The bass playing is amazing just after the bit where he says 'tell me what the bass says'.

5. Lovesexy:- I love the Lovesexy album but the title track is my favourite, couldn't believe how much energy and funk is in this song.

Good list, with the exception of electric chair, all those songs wowed me as well. Id replace electric chair with Automatic in my wow list, and Id add If I was your girlfriend in there aswell

cool

Didn't expect anyone to give reasons why, just thought i'd make it a slightly more interesting topic!! I might not have the same love for electric chair as i did then but it was my first prince album and I hadn't had much exposure to his music.

Don't feel that old, i was alive for all of his albums. Just didn't get going until the Batman album. Don't ask me why!

Hell yeah, great choices.

Mine:

#4 Automatic. - It's hypnotizing, sexy and almost otherworldly because Prince made his best use of the keyboard and linn drum machine on this record. And the lyrics are so co-denpendently sexy.

#5. Venus De Milo - One of the rare Prince instrumentals where I don't hear his voice but feel it. I would love an all instrumental album from da Pretty man.

Housequake
Annastesia
DMSR
Erotic City
When Doves Cry

Tough to just pick five, but those blew my mind when I first heard them and I could not hear them enough. I have since heard Erotic City and When Doves Cry enough but have not really tired of the first three on my list.I will never forget how some reviewers called DMSR "filler" on 1999. And then it was left off the first CD pressing! Perhaps his most recent song to make me feel that way would be Family Name.

Peace,
Scott

Hard to pick 5 but i'll try

Power Fantastic (I missed it until the Hits/B-Sides came out and was like dayum!)

Irresistible (the audacity of the song at a relatively tame time in radio history, but even THEY couldn't from on how FUNKY this joint was/is)

Anna Stesia (stood out immediately upon first listen)

If I Was Your Girlfriend (I remember getting my ALBUM in the mail from the Columbia House Music Club and met "Camille" for the 1st time!)

Why u Wanna Treat Me So Bad/Bambi (Songs in the background of my childhood; remember thinking this guy can do KINDS of music)

Raspberry Beret - I was ten at the time and I never heard someone cough in a song before! It seemed so weird and cool. So this song just grabbed me right off the bat and it was the one that really made me a fan.
Fury (SNL version) - I was blown away by this performance on first listen. I remember sitting on the couch thinking...Wow! That was the shit! I couldn't wait to get the album.
Electric Intercourse. On first listen I was like why wasn't this on Purple Rain?!
I Could Never Take The Place of Your Man (movie version) I love this version and have listened to it over and over.
Scarlet Pussy The lyrics in this song are fucking awesome! "She will make you shoot your ego all over her sheets." lol thumbs up!
