No prince in the stores!!

What's up everyone hope your enjoying the new albums as much as I am. Anyway I was wondering if anyone here has noticed that there's hardly ANY Prince in your local record stores.I know most people buy their music over the net nowadays but Damn. I was in Border books and music last night and almost passed out. They only had Purple Rain, te amo corozon cd single, 1999 and the very best of Prince. How sad is that. One of the greatest and most prolific artist of our time and 90 percent of his catolog can't be found in the stores. I remember when the Prince section was one of the biggest in the stores now it's just plain awful. Peace, Carmy. sad

it goes in phases. this just happens to be one of those times when there isn't a lot of product in the stores. sometimes, almost every album is in stock at every store.

I happened to be in K-Mart looking for another CD and since I was there,
checked out what they had for Prince CD's,
and there wasn't anything there, just the little divider with his name on it.
Don't know if that's good or bad, if he's selling out, or they just don't stock his music there.

The vast majority of Prince's best work is owned by Warner Brothers and Prince had a historic and well documented feud with the company. They will not re-promote any new album sans a digital upgrading and that will take a Prince agreement. Read any post or thread on this subject and that will answer any questions that you will have on that subject. It's just cost prohibitive for them to press 500,000 copies of For You when 100 copies will be sold.

Well, its not very long before his masters are all in his possession again so, I wouldn't wait for Prince to work on remastering anything until then.
Change it one more time..

Repromoting and reprinting (aka pressing another disk) is different. No record company is going to print 500,000 old albums to send out. If they did, a record would be gold over and over again.

well, no. they'll be returned to his possession one year at a time. i wouldn't look forward to him doing anything with him until he's a got a few under his belt. probably until he's got 1999 back. or at LEAST the self-titled one and Dirty Mind.

though what he will actually do with them scares the bejeezus out of me.

yep there was nothing in Virgin Records prior to it closing....so yes I have noticed the lack of Prince music in stores, Even Best Buy only had Musicology
and Planet Earth not a huge back log at all.

well a lot of prince stuff is being deleted by the record company aka OOP such as 3121, musicology, rainbow children, planet earth etc.... it seems his "deals" as a one man owns it all guy, kinda sucks. Check out amazon.com and look at all the "deleted" material. even WB is deleting his older stuff. Except for Purple rain of course. tsk tsk tsk

Hell, look at the type of stores you are looking in.....K Mart, Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Border, etc.....major coast to coast chains that aren't even full fledged record stores and carry a variety of other items also. Naturally, they are only going to carry the newest popular biggest selling music (shit hop) and if they do carry music from an older artist, it is going to be one that was a huge major crossover artist and the product will only be either a greatest hits collection or one of their most popular biggest selling items of the past. You'll never find artists like The Barkays, Con Funk Shun, or Brick in those stores.

You need to shop at and support your local owned record stores that carry music and nothing else. These are the stores that carry a much wider variety of music and are the type of stores that have supported and helped Prince's career all these years. My local record store usually carries damn near all the Prince albums that are still in print and if they don't have it in stock, they will order it if you ask them to. They have to eliminate a lot of albums from other artists that weren't as big as Prince (to make room for all the new shit hop) but they usually carry at least a greatest hits album from a lot of these other less popular artists. But as I said before, when it comes to Prince, they usually carry everything that is available to them. That's why Prince's Target exclusive is a damn shame. He's lying in bed with the main ones that would cut his throat and shitting on the ones that have supported him through the years.
